1 Thessalonians 5:26 ESV
26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
I kiss my children on the head.
I kiss my wife
I kiss my grandmother
Be wise, respect boundaries, love one another.
When we think of touch we often think of hands. The strength of a father’s hands, the gentleness of a mothers touch, the joy of being with family.
We hold hands to pray as a sign of unity. These are all things that Jesus would have experienced as one of us.
Today we will look at the work Jesus did with his hands.

The Touch of His Hands.

He reached for his mother as a baby.

Luke 2:7 ESV
7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

Worked like his father.

Mark 6:3 ESV
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

Healed the sick and touched the untouchable

Matthew 8:3 ESV
3 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

He blessed the children

Matthew 19:13–14 ESV
13 Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, 14 but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

He broke bread with his friends.

Matthew 26:26 ESV
26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”

Wielded Miraculous power with compassion.

Luke 22:50–51 ESV
50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him.

His hands were pierced for our sins.

Isaiah 53:5 ESV
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Cured the doubt of Thomas

John 20:24–29 ESV
24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” 26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
He brought joy to so many through the touch and the work of his hands. He set the example for us that we might live by faith and follow in his footsteps.
Whose life will you touch this Christmas?
As we end our service today we have a sister in need with us. We are going to act in faith and ask God for some healing.
