Introduction
Today the title of our lesson is “Take Your Faith Out of Neutral:
Before we get deep in the content of this message, let’s first define the term “NEUTRAL”
NEUTRAL
Not aligned with, supporting, or favoring either side
Examples:
If a person or country adopts a neutral position or remains neutral, they do not support anyone in a disagreement, war, or contest.
During World War II countries that remained neutral - not belonging to the Axis or Allied powers included Spain an Sweden
To settle an argument or dispute sometimes an arbiter (someone who is unbiased) is hired
Putting a car in neutral
I’m a Chicago sports fan
Additionally, all Christian under the sound of my voice know that we cannot be neutral about Christ.
Matthew 12:30 ESV
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
Matthew 27:24 ESV
So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”
We’ll get more into that in my conclusion
Christians cannot be neutral concerning
Attending Church
Hebrews 10:24–25 ESV
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Acts 20:28 ESV
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
Acts 2:47 ESV
praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Christians cannot be neutral concerning
Training up our children
Proverbs 22:6 ESV
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Pew research on number of children leaving the church after college never to return
Many are going as far as to declare themselves atheists or agnostics, while others say they’re “spiritual” but not religious
“Learning about evolution when I went away to college.”
“Rational thought makes religion go out the window.”
“Lack of any sort of scientific or specific evidence of a creator.”
“I just realized somewhere along the line that I didn’t really believe it.”
“I’m doing a lot more learning, studying, and kind of making decisions myself rather than listening to someone else.”
Christians cannot be neutral concerning
Social issues
2 Peter 1:3 ESV
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
I do not have to examine the latest opinion poll on any issue to determine its current validity
God have given to us ALL Things
Do not capitulate and acquiesce
2 Timothy 2:15 ESV
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
God's love IS unconditional, but His salvation is VERY conditional. Society has removed itself so far from Scripture, it can no longer recognize sin. When that happens, homosexuality is simply a matter of preference because the Standard (Bible) has been removed and replaced with opinion
Christians cannot be neutral concerning
Sharing the Gospel
Everyone under my voice is on two different paths with two different ends
Matthew 7:13–14 ESV
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
What is the danger of having a faith that is neutral
Revelation 3:15–17 ESV
“ ‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
