Introduction
Mary - teenage girl, unmarried, pregnant. Poor.
Mary trusted that her life was part of the grander story. She trusted that the same God who had been faithful to Noah, to Abraham, to David and Daniel, would be faithful to her too. She trusted that God is a God of staggering reversals, and that what she saw today was not all that would ever be. From generation to generation, God changes the way things are, and her story was yet another example to encourage future generations.

For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: For, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
And his mercy is on them that fear him From generation to generation.

And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
