HOOK

DO NOT FORGET TO UNMUTE
It’s the 15th day of December— Tuesday!
Yesterday right here at “The Message” we started with chapter 17 and it begun with what happened when Paul and his companions was in Thessalonica— their stay in this town was very brief due to the persecution, rejection and expulsion of the jealous Jews— Paul reasoned at the synagogue for 3 consecutive sabbath days while staying at Jason’s home [a Jewish Christian in Thessalonica]— the jealous Jews formed a mob of some bad characters and dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials saying that they were causing trouble and defiant to Caesar’s decrees— they made them post bail and let them go— very likely with the condition that Paul and his company should leave Thessalonica— from this we learned 2 things:
JEALOUSY IS THE COMMON REASON FOR RESISTANCE
BAD COMPANY CORRUPTS GOOD CHARACTER
Moving on.... today we will continue with chapter 17— after leaving Thessalonica, Paul and his companions went to Berea— open your Bible to ACTS 17:10-15
When studying the Bible, look for words that defines the CHARACTER of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit— keep an eye on COMMANDS to obey— good EXAMPLES to follow, and bad examples to avoid— PROMISES that you could claim— sins to CONFESS— CHALLENGES you encountered— and ENCOURAGEMENT to keep you going
READ ACTS 17:10-15

BOOK

Acts 17:10–15 NIV
10 As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 12 As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men. 13 But when the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, some of them went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up. 14 The believers immediately sent Paul to the coast, but Silas and Timothy stayed at Berea. 15 Those who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.

LOOK

THEY RECEIVED THE MESSAGE WITH GREAT EAGERNESS
The Jews in Berea [Berean Jews] was more open-minded— they were receptive to what Paul preached to them
EXAMINED THE SCRIPTURES EVERY DAY
To see if what Paul said was true— after the death of Moses, Joshua was installed as leader and God charged him with this words [JOSHUA 1:8]
AS A RESULT MANY OF THEM BELIEVED
Their eagerness and open-mindedness led many to believe in Jesus— the Berean Jews are willing to search their scriptures to check if indeed the Messiah should suffer
But when the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God in Berea, some of them went there to agitate the crowd and stir them against Paul— immediately, the believers in Berea sent Paul to the coastal city of Athens [some 300 miles from Berea— the center of Greek culture] — Silas and Timothy stayed behind to continue the ministry in Berea with the instructions from Paul to join him as soon as possible
Our take away from our short devotional study today is about examining the scriptures because it led many to believe— to receive the gospel with eagerness and open-mindedness— 6 things to remember when examining the scriptures to see if what the preacher was saying is true
Read, Listen, Study, Meditate, Memorize and Apply— let me put our life applications today in sentences that we can all easily remember...
