Psalm 2 is a glorious poem, contains 4 stanzas of 3 verses each. To read, one is first led to consider King David, but as the believer reads, we are drawn by faith to consider the Spiritual and Greater David. These words are to exaggerated for the King of Israel and point us to Christ Jesus, the Son.
Let us read each stanza and consider it wealth in regards to the Spiritual David.
Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
“Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
So thankful to consider this passage in the context of the weeks we have spent in the good word of Genesis. Ever since creation humanity has been trying burst the bonds and cast away the decrees of God from us. Sinful man will take counsel together, plot, and make war in opposition against God.
in the first 3 verses we see the nations raging and ask...
am i an enemy of God and of His Annoited…
Does the governance and sovereignty of God and of His Annointed frustrate mmy plans...
He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
“As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”
Let us not look to man, who is gathering together against our Lord… let us raise our eyes to the Most High. What will God do to those who reject his only Begotten Son?
Make note of the temperament of God. He does not come to battle against them yet! He despises them, he knows the vanity and how absurd, how irrational, futile their attempts are against Him, and he laughs.

here the confidebce and assurety of his statement.
AS FOR ME… I HAVE SET… MY KING… ON ZION… MY HOLY HILL.
The Lord of Heaven derides His enemies… nothing will thwart GOD.
I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
The Son proclaims the Decree...
Please hear the King wand all humanity of His sovereinty, and warn his enemies of their doom.

Jesus but asks and have...
his enemies are even his inheritance.
I would like you to think about this… what is the “Rod of iron” ? What is this weapon in the sons arsenal?
Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
The scene changes to those who have been his enemies… and a word of wisdom. Your warfare cannot succeed. So yield cheerfully.
Advice is given to yield obedience to the Lord’s annointed.
Last clause.—Nature, object, and blessedness of saving faith.
The King is born tomorrow, prepare him room, make way within...
the nature of your faith should be hope in this King, belief, in this king, and trust in this king.
The object of your faith is this King in his person and work.
the results of this faith… joy everlasting, peace forever more, inheritance of the Son… they are sure, kept, and presently enjoyed and in the future heightened all the more.
This psalm shows us the nature of sin, and the terrible results IF it could reign. Nothing is more irrational. This child born unto us is King… it is absolute… and it sin shall not reign. See what God has done is Christ, marvel, be full of faith and affection.... and long for his second coming!
