A God Who Controls Weather Patterns
I learned a valuable lesson early on in life. Those in our life are either pallbearers or armor bearers.
one carries us to our grave; speak defeat, see everything wrong, always talking, while missing what God is saying or doing.
one walks with us in battle, assisting us by carrying weapons and assisting us with the right weapon of choice in a battle.
in battle we don’t always see what’s coming from our blind side and we need armor bears.
sometimes it gets rough and fatigue begins to set in and we need someone reminding us who we are so that we might be encouraged and tell ourselves; I just can’t give up now, come to far from where I started from, nobody told me that the road would be easy but I don’t believe he brought me this far to leave me.
All of us are susceptible to forget that because God is who he is and as believers we always have hope, we always have a chance.
It is during these moments of lapse, we need someone in our life to remind us, God is still God, God is still good, and God is still in control.
The Text: Behind the scene
Job has just been in the company of some pallbearers, Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar.
Their time spent with Job is spent telling him that he is suffering because God is punishing him for sin.
While Job is in the middle of complaining and being hard on himself, the armor bearer Elihu speaks and contradicts the fundamental opinions expressed by the pallbearers, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar.
Elihu just appears on the scene.
While Jobs 3 friends say Job is suffering because he is being punished.
Elihu says that sometimes suffering is meant to preserve and protect against greater sins. And the suffering is meant to help us trust God that much more.
In other words: some stuff God orchastrates for his purpose. And even when we disagree with or struggle with what God is doing it is in our best interest to remember God controls weather patterns.
Elihu doesn’t want Job to lose his way during these hard times.
Elihu is magnifying the greatness and the sovereignty of God.
he proceeds to remind Job that God is always in charge.
v1-5; God has a voice that everything and everyone has to listen to.
everybody and everything has to respond to him.
from the white house to your house.
if you believe in him or not, you still going to respond.
animate or inanimate; dead or alive. big or small..
there is nothing beyond the scope or voice of God.
this is why you can speak to the mountain; resist the devil
Theological lesson: Nature is the Exhibit of Divine programming.
The snow doesn't fall just because it’s winter. It doesn't rain just because it's spring or fall, it's not calm, cool and sunny because of the high air pressure and it's not warm, and cloudy just because of the low air pressure.
Truth of the matter is, the weather is what it is because God controls and has authority over weather the weather pattern has to respond to his voice.
I know they taught us in science:
In the atmosphere, cold air is denser and drier than warm air. When cold air encounters warm air, the warm air rises over the cold air and makes surface air pressure drop. As a result, a low pressure system forms and winds begin to blow. Storms form in response to changes in air temperature.
That's what we learned in science class.
But Elihu said all of this comes from the breath of God.
Important Note: we know so much that we forget the main thing.
God is the reason Cold air comes from the north colliding with the warm air in the south creating a storm.
He knows how much cold air to blow depending on purpose.
he blows just a little cold air to create a breeze;
then he knows how to blow more than enough so everything freezes leaving us dependent on him.
Nature functions the way it does, because God programmed it to function that way.
things are not just happening, there is something God is doing or saying.
Whatever season I find myself in God controls the season.
God knows how to shut things down. He doesn't need our permission.
v7; He seals the hand of every man;
a farmer who works the field and lives off the land.
God sends seasons of storms and harsh conditions because it prepares the land for bountiful blessings.
And while he's preparing the land for bountiful blessings God tells both man and animals go on and sit down somewhere.
Sit down somewhere because there's nothing you can do about this.
Animals don't know why it's wet in spring, hot in the summer, cool in the fall and cold and snowy in the winter. They don't even know why they sleep in the winter when food is not as accessible.
this shows how in control God is of all his creation.
people concern for birds eating; wildlife struggling, God takes care of his creation.
Most times storms don't hit all over at the same time.
Strom in the south, and calm up north.
Freezing in the northeast part of the United states and smoldering heat in southwest part of the states.
When you have storms everywhere, pandemic everywhere, racial tension everywhere, economic instability everywhere, political tension throughout the land.
The question is not what are we going to do to fix it, but God what are you trying to tell us.
Rain/storm is a Form of divine communication.
He sends clouds wherever he wants.
If it rains to much and destroys some stuff it just might be a sign of punishment.
If it rains just enough and bless the field, then it is a sign of God's love.
And sometimes it rains just because God has programmed it to rain.
The thought in the text is, whenever it rains you ought to pay attention to what God is saying.
Our country is in a storm. Don't be so quick to blame others for the problems.
All of us just might need to repent.
While we are ready to destroy one man, all of us just might need to ask the Lord to be merciful towards him and us.
We're in a storm, Trump can't get us out of the storm.
Biden can't get us out of the storm.
Only God, can get us out of the storm.
Conclude:
I am so glad God controls the seasons and not man.
If man don't like you you might get no water.
I am so glad the water hose is in God's hands.
Can I tell you something about seasons.
Seasons Change.
If you don't like the season that you're in, just hold on a little while longer because seasons change.
The framer knows, I may not be able to control the season, but if I endure.
Even if my storm is a punishment, if I repent, and endure the consequences, seasons change.
For those of us who know God controls the weather Patterns, peace in the midst of the storm.
Elihu is reminding Job; that God is able
now unto him who is able to keep us.
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from Heaven above
With wisdom, power and love
Our God is an awesome God
Wisdom, he knows what he is doing.
Power, no body can supersede his authority.
Love, because he loves me, he will hide me under the shadow of his wings.
New Testament, he hides me under the shadow of the cross.
At the cross where I first saw the light and the burden of my heart rolled away, it was there by faith I received my sight and now I am happy all the down.
Sometimes in the storm I forget where I am supposed to be.
Jesus keep me near the cross, safety near the cross, I have peace when I stay near the cross.
Don't forget who he is.
