I come from a military family, more precisely I come from a Navy family. This was evident when I was growing up and through my years in Boy Scouts. My dad used to teach us pioneering, orientation, sailing, and marksmanship. One of the most fascinating skills my father had was an ability to understand precisely where he was on the globe using on the stars and planets.

I was continually amazed as he would share the positions of the constellations and their meaning in celestial navigation. What amazed me was that although we couldn’t physically touch the stars, their light always provided for navigation. We could simply use the stars to see where we were and were we should head.

To really make this more evident, I’ve traveled in the open water at night and understand that light of all sorts not only provides for direction, but also stops us from running aground. We’ve got access to light houses and beacons to provide for this type of navigation.

I view Christ in my life much in the same way. I can’t touch Him, but I can see the light of Truth through him and His word. This light is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. With Him in my life I can navigate and protect myself from harm.
