Penny- Prepare the Way! Repent TO Higher Road/More of God/Superior Realities

When we started worship this morning. The the phrase partnering with fear kind of went running through my mind and and as that it ran through my mind for the very first time like the perverseness of that statement breast over me. Like partnering with fear and the entirety of the perverseness because we all know the origin of fear. and and you know as there's so many things personally in our lives globally and as a nation going on right now, what if what if all the stuff around us made as partner with trust and a way that we couldn't dream of the floor because you know what the thing is about trust as you never have an opportunity to trust unless you have an opportunity to trust I know that was a good one, wasn't it?

I find myself in a position of needing to trust. And I for one when a partner with trust and not let fear have any perverse holding me. And this verse in 1st Corinthians says where is the wise man? Where is the Scribe? Where is the debater of this age has not God made the foolish wisdom of the world that had to have that has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world for since the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God. God was well pleased through the foolishness of the message priests to preach to save those who believe I tell you what choosing trust when the whole globe is choosing fear might seem foolish but it says right here that God was well pleased through the foolishness of the message priests preach to save those who believe Let's be the foolishness of the world and choose to step into a place of trust when the whole globe is screaming fear. Let's be the generation the steps into this Divine moment to choose Trust.

Hey when we think about the story of Esther standing against Haman. Remember the words of Mordecai telling talking to his relatively nice gesture that you were born for such a time as this and this is what we have to remember that. We are born for such a time as this.

And God, I just asked that's he's not just a few words.

a medium of your life to flow that our lives be changed. and transform In Jesus name amen. So what do you guys think of when you hear the word repent? Just go ahead and throw some things at what are some things that you think of just first things. turning around changing your way. awareness

I think sometimes in the past those things were so closely correlated that God really, you know, there's a work that needs to be done to sever those ties.

So pay attention.

Break through all these are so good guys. Doing things God's way good.

Good soap for me and I ain't you know, I've been looking at this word a lot over the years and we've reached on it, you know, it's Greek and what it means and all these things and yet I think still over the course of this last year got just had this weird rolling around on me because it's still to me and now that this is bad because this is part of it right but still to me when I think of the word repent, I think turning away from sin. That's that's just what I think in my mind. But it's okay. Let me ask this. So so what are some things that we repent from? I mean we can we can repent from sin. Right? Like that's the thing. That's that's true. What are some other things?

Good, right. I Repent from Evil good do I think go ahead? Yes, that's it. That's actually my next statement here. What I'm proposing this morning. Maybe is that there's more to this concept Freight like not only is it in regard to Turning from sin and turning from inferior things. But but just all inferior things in general like I'm believing that we can repent from inferior thinking and then turn toward a higher road. So it is part of this this morning. I'm just going to tell the story and most of you are very familiar with the story. But let's just ask God to breathe fresh Leon it okay. We've heard it called the parable of the Prodigal Son. Maybe some of you have heard titles that highlight the father's roller or lots of different titles. But but for the sake of this morning and where we're going today, we're going to call it the tale of two roads. Okay, let's hear a visual learner and it helps you to follow along. I'm one of those people I like to read as I listened if you're not one of those people. I'm just going to ask you to Who's your eyes this morning and try to visualize the story as we go here? Okay. Jesus is telling the story. Originally, I'm not saying originally. There was a man who had two sons. The younger son said to him father give me my share of the estate. So he divided his property between them. After a few days the younger son got everything together in journey to a distant country where he squandered his wealth and wild living after he had spent all he had a severe famine swept through that country and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country who sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. He longed to fill his belly with a part of the pig that the pods the pigs were eating but no one would give him a thing. Finally, he came to his senses and said how many of my father's hired servants have plenty of food, but here I am starving to death. I will get up and go back to my father and say to him father. I have sinned against heaven and against you I am no longer worthy to be called your son make me like one of your hired servants. So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still in the distance his father saw him and was filled with compassion here and with son embraced him and kissed him. The son declared father I have sinned against heaven and against you I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his servants quick bring the best robe and put it on and put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet bring the fatted calf and kill it. Let us feast and celebrate for this son of mine was dead and is alive again he was lost and is found. So they began to celebrate. Meanwhile, the older son was in the field and as he approached the house, he heard music and dancing. So he calls one of the servants and asked what was going on. Your brother has returned. He said and your father has killed the fatted calf because he has him back safe and sound the older son became angry and refused to go in so his father came out and pleaded with him, but he answered his father. Look all these years. I have served you and never disobey the commandant of yours yet. You never gave me even the young don't so I could celebrate with my friend. But when this son of yours returns from squandering your wealth, you kill the fatted calf for him. Son, you are always with me the Father's Day and all that is mine is yours, but it was fitting to celebrate and be glad because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again. He was lost and is found.

Now there's a lot to be learned from every person in the story. Right Jesus told the story. He came up with this story. So like probably every single little word and and whatever syllable in the story is dripping with meaning but for the sake of this morning, we're just going to be talking about the younger son.

And I'm I'm looking at this and I'm I'm thinking his thinking isn't aligned as a son. I'm postulating that he's operating out of prisoner thinking this prisoner mentality of of only seen what he can't have like he's seeing things in terms of of what's beyond his reach in the things that that he can't do and he didn't understand the reality of the full access that he really did have. So he'd he asks for portion and takes his portion of the wealth chose the road that led away from the father into what he thought looks like freedom and happiness and squander the resources on all the things that from his former position. He sought outside of his grass.

But in the process he ended up with nothing because none of those things will ever produce life. They will only ever produce destruction and death of various sorts, and he found himself a servant to an uncaring master. And at this place of nothing verse 17 says he came to himself.

As I was reading that this time God made this connection in it. I don't know if you've ever been in this position of coming to yourself. But it reminded me of the time. In my life. So going back I have I had a pretty successful childhood and young adult experience. I understood success and accomplishment in in various fields in a lot of different ways and I never really gave any of it much thought it was just kind of a given that's just kind of how things work and it wasn't wasn't something I ever stopped and thought about And then one day my world changed. And I became a mom. And I knew I wanted to invest myself is fully as I could possibly ever invest myself into something. I wanted to do that into raising my children. And so I pretty much quit everything that I was involved in her that I was doing and I like dedicated myself to this task. It was a very interesting transition in time. In my life as I went from being having these very busy life go-go-go-go being very successful accomplishment. All of these things to all of a sudden I was not I was busy in a very different way and doing something. I was feeling not very good at all. I was not feeling the success. I was not feeling the accomplishment. I was not feeling the accolades. I was not feeling these things anymore.

And all of a sudden all of these things that I had so unintentionally completely I need knowingly. allowed influence my thoughts of who I was they were all gone. It was all Stripped Away.

And all I was left with with myself. I came to myself.

And it was in this season that I began to learn what it meant to just be a daughter. Define my identity solely in him.

And as he was bringing that to my mind, I I believe this might have been a similar experience to what Jesus was expressing about the Sun. Everything that had previously to find him was gone. All he was left with with himself.

But when he came to himself he says and it's weird for he said is to declare to say and in looking at it gives a little bit more of a description properly bring to light by a certain one statement or point of view over another to speak comparatively making effective contrast which illuminate literally produce an epiphany. So that's what this word. He said. Producing a piffany. So at this place where he's there's nothing left. It's just him. And he declares out this phrase. That's this also like this Epiphany that's going on at the same time. About that the contrast between his father's hired servants and what's going on in his life. and I think this is a really important Point here because when he's at this point of of making this comparison and it doesn't produce bitterness or Rebellion or hostility or any of these things that maybe made him choose that rode away in the first place, but this time

Instead of seeing the path of freedom freedom and happiness as the road away from the father. Now this realization drives him back to his father. And he realizes who his father is seen him differently than before. And it's understanding opens the way for him to go back to him. And he chooses the road back to the father.

And I still love what happens next in the story. I think this is such a beautiful picture what happens next as soon as the sun is spotted off in the distance the father runs out to his son and Embraces him before anything is ever even said there's nothing said at this point the father rushes out runs and meets him right where he's at. He never asked the Sun for an account of the wealth. You never asked him any questions.

He understood that his heart had changed Direction. He was coming to the father and he meets him in that place and draws him further in he doesn't just leave them on the road. He bring them back and draw some Andre stores his identity as a beloved Son because you see he always had been. But his thinking was in the line with the truth of who he was. Verse 31 the father's talking to the older son who's also night not quite grasping the truth of fun chip and he says son you are always with me and all that is mine is yours.

This was the truth of the reality for both sons, but neither one previously saw it. Be back in Bristol. There was a man who had two sons. The younger son said to him father. Give me my share of the estate. So he divided his property between them contrasts against that wood verse 31 son. You are always with me and all that is mine is yours.

And the Sun is asking. Okay, here's my portion. I'm going to collect this and I'm going to do no go and whatever but I think of the difference between that and all that is mine is yours.

He always had had access to everything. He just didn't see it. That's prisoner thinking we could only see what he didn't have. He didn't understand how to rule and reign with full access where he was.

We are Sons we have full access.

There is a greater understanding and how in the how to the ruling and reigning as co-heirs with Christ in this earth. And this process of turning from inferior thinking to hire roads that lead into the heart of God is repentance.

I shared this quote last week. Or whatever however many weeks ago last time. I talked our future depends on our belief systems. Our current present reality is the result of our past belief system. We must go to a higher level in our beliefs. It's called repentance. Now think about this quote in terms of the Sun from our story.

his past belief system Is why at one point he finds himself Starving in a desecrated petaflop? It was his belief. That was the predecessor to that reality. He found himself in.

But as his beliefs became enlightened.

He chose the road back to the father. in his future change dramatically

I think often times when we think of repentance Dino for me in the past. We think of what we're repenting from.

What if we begin to think of repentance in terms of what or repenting to?

Repentance changes our direction to come up higher to new levels. We're moving from glory to glory. We're constantly ascending

I just haven't been able to move past John the Baptist Jesus and the Pharisees this to these past months just stirring around there all the time. John the Baptist being sent to head of Jesus why?

That's what started all of this rolling around that question. The Pharisees had no idea they needed to repent to something greater and no idea. They have thought that they had things going on pretty well. And John is sent to prepare the people that something outside of their current Paradigm is coming because Jesus was not going to fit into their current paradigm.

He sent to open their minds to the possibility that maybe they didn't have everything exactly right? Maybe it wasn't the exact. Correct Outlook after all.

Maybe even they needed to change their way of thinking. Be cleansed from the old to be ready for the new.

What's the scripture next shame?

As it is written Isaiah the prophet I will send my messenger ahead of you who will prepare your way a voice of one calling in the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord make straight paths for him. So John is here and not because of this though, it isn't fulfillment of this. But you do understand that God knows the whole plan. So like he didn't just have to send John at the last minute because Isaiah had says as soon as there was he knew back then that John was going to be needed. Right? So like all of this is is still working out. Because of what is needed to happen and so John is as person sent into the scene to prepare the way of the Lord and make straight paths for him.

So the way is away a road like a path, right? And the word path here is what however you say it. It means a Beaten Track or path and it's it's more like about this this rut in this path that's formed by this rubbing and this constant use it's like, you know, you've got pads through the woods that are like just beaten down because that's where everybody goes. It's like it's like this constant use this rut that's created this path.

As I kept looking at its kept reading their this is also a regular path that all things must travel in their spiritual journey and romance of knowing god. It is the Road of Faith with Scott evil extends to all people. So all can know him for who he is personally grasping his attributes. And then this word straight is straight straight away properly straight without unnecessary zigzags detours upright not freaking or bent figuratively without delay. So there have been a lot of unnecessary zigzags in the Pharisees path to God. So much so that the path wasn't even really leading to God anymore. But they didn't realize this they had no clue. They seem to be operating out of a desire to keep things pure for it seems at least that's how it began. Right and looking back over Israel history. I can totally understand and appreciate that desire for them to want to keep things pure. Right you look back over the the centuries before in the cycle of apostasy in all these things right house. They just continually were falling into idol worship and and these different things and so I can understand, you know, it seems like a righteous Endeavor to set up a system to keep things pure.

How do we were never designed to maintain our current level in place? We were created to expand God's Kingdom on the earth not simply shelter in and avoid corruption.

Genesis 1:28 and God bless them and God said to them be fruitful and multiply and fill the Earth and subdue it. We were made to expand heaven on Earth.

We were made to expand his kingdom domain throughout the Earth.

It was part of our original mandate. So if that's true. It must be built into Who We Are.

We are equipped for the things to which were called and if we're design for expanding God's domain on Earth. What do you suppose happens when we get to the place where we believe for this is just the best it is we've arrived here doesn't get better now till we die.

This is where things get a little funky oftentimes.

It's not how we're wired to operate. We are designed to move from glory to glory. So the system that the Pharisees had set up to keep things pure and as they were was actually in verse to God's Kingdom.

And Jesus comes and presents a radically different way of thinking the last shall be first the first shall be last, you know previously you had to maintain, you know, if you couldn't touch a leper or you would be unclean and now he's touching lepers and they become cleaned us all of these things that that are so different. I completely opposite right of the way that they had understood things because he brought his kingdom with him. He was restoring his kingdom on the earth. I mean Jesus comes along. So John said he prepares the way and says repent right and Jesus. His message is repent for the kingdom of God is at hand. At hand the kingdom is here. Now this changes everything. Everything's changed everything's new everything's different. But the people needed to realize they had inferior thinking in order to embrace the superior reality. Here's another illustration of what I mean Mark 5 if you want to follow along. So there's this man and I don't remember if it says how long this has been going on, but he is wild with demons just this wild man. And how did the people around him respond to this? It seems to me from the chains and what said that they viewed him as someone who needed to be feared avoided and controlled.

But Jesus comes on the scene.

And he sees it very differently. And he sees one who needs to be saved and set free.

The inferior thinking of the townspeople could never free that man. And really it couldn't even do what it set out to do. It couldn't even accomplish the task that they set out to do in controlling him.

He break the chains you run around being or whatever.

Only the superior ways of the Kingdom could bring freedom.

And that's the part of just been stuck on this the season their inferior thinking not only kept people in bondage, but in the end it actually crucified God.

They were so sure of their thinking and believe that anything that looked outside of that box was actively squashed. And this is not the camp that I want to reside in.

I want to repent to the higher road that leads to the greater death of God.

So, how do we

And I I think I mean I could save this next part probably for anything you would ask me. Because it's just so foundational. It's the central fees. I want so I believe the place we begin is the same as is any and it's abide. I mean, I think so much can always be summed up in that one word abide. John 15:4 abide in me and I in you we are are seated in Christ in Heavenly places. We are this is our true and present reality we get to dwell in Christ in the presence of God. 24/7. Jesus did everything to make this realm of living possible. We get to remain in him live in from out of this position.

And the Greek word for abide in this John 15:4 is the same word used in John 8:31. You guys have heard me say this before. So John 8:31. So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed him. If you abide in my word, then you are truly Disciples of mine and you will know the truth and the truth will make you free.

You don't need to show the rest of those slides cuz there's just so you know, I've I've shown you them before just as I was looking into the Greek words involved in that passage and what they all mean and my paraphrase out of that. If you abide in me in the sauce of the father through the spirit than you are truly Disciples of mine and you will personally experientially intimately know reality and the truth about reality will make you free released from bondage and the restrictions of sin and darkness will be removed from you.

Like I just see this.

Yeah. the paraphrase

Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed in him. If you abide in me and the thoughts of the father through the spirit, then you are truly Disciples of mine and you will personally experientially intimately know reality. And the true to fact reality will make you free release from bondage and the restrictions of sin and darkness will be removed from you.

And what did I just say is true to fact reality. We are seated in Christ in Heavenly places.

and in this place of abiding all of a sudden these restrictions that have been clouding our vision start to get removed and we get to experience. the truth of this reality

We know it here. I mean we talked about this enough here, right? And I think I have pockets of time we've experienced it but the guys like this is our 24/7 reality. It's true. And it has weed will and abide and remain we get to start to experience this intimately at whole new levels. Jesus came and set the captives free. He is the way John 14:6 Jesus answered. I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me is that one this piece we're going through not over around under whatever. Is that coming through Jesus uniting with him biting swelling remaining.

And because we're United with Christ and Christ is united with God. We are reunited with the father in him. That's why we get to experience life. Now Union with God is the only thing that produces life is the only thing God is life is the only source of life.

So we get to experience life and life abundantly. We get to experience these things we get to remain in truth because where you were United with Christ he is truth.

But we get to make the choice to abide in reality. It is true that we are already there.

but I believe it takes practice on our end to actually live from this place.

Like the two suns in the story that had full access to everything on the farm, but they hadn't learned to operate from that reality was true all that I have is yours. But they didn't know how to operate in that reality.

We can learn to abide more and more and I believe part of this now I could probably go on for hours with how we can train and learn an end. Do these things but part of this is the training of our mind part of it is just setting the side taking the time and then abide. Well, how do we live in this place? How do we train our mind to to understand that like, we are currently presently right while I'm talking right while I'm doing dishes right while I'm changing the diaper. I am dwelling in Christ in Heavenly places. And and that's up here. 2nd Corinthians 10:5, we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself against the knowledge of God and we take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ. It's like taking every thought is this true. Is this truth? Is this truth? Is this truth? Because you probably heard this before a version of this we cannot afford have a single thought in our head that is not in alignment with truth. We can't Truth must be our Paradigm. We're seeing everything through. So we must remain in him where our thoughts become his more appropriately where his thoughts become hours.

2nd Corinthians 3:18

and we all with unveiled face beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image from one degree of Glory to another for this comes from the Lord who is Spirit. We talked about this word transformed before change after being with

change after being with and changing form and keeping within a reality.

Have you ever heard the quote? You become what you behold?

When he is the alive reality in us and we set our Gaze on him and remain in him. We are transformed from glory to glory into his likeness including our minds.

Because again, the reality is 1st Corinthians, 2:16 says we have the mind of Christ.

And so in this place of beholding God and abiding in him and dwelling in this place. We all with unveiled face beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed changing form and keeping within a reality.

into the same image from one degree of Glory to another

So we get to repent to Superior thinking. Where we allow only truth to shape our lens and be the Paradigm for which we see everything.

paradigm's being remade

can be a messy process.

So as we go forward.

I believe there's some things that we just need to briefly mention and talk about.

as we go forward we can't be afraid of question. Either to ask them ourselves. or in other people's

As Paradise get remade in new things are introduced. This is an important processes questions. But it's also where several things become very important. So I'm just going to cover a few we have to be listening for hearing and able to discern God's voice. We need to understand the way as he speaks to us.

We must be ready to do whatever he says. Because we're going to be moving into Uncharted Territory where we don't have the experience to help guide and direct us. So we have to be able to hear discern understand and do.

We have to know scripture.

Like a season to dig in. This is a rock solid foundation for God to build upon and is also the protection from straying off the path.

But remember his word is alive and he may want to give you New Revelations on passages you read hundreds of time. So don't assume you have it down. Consume it regularly.

And we need to stay in relationship with one another God made us a body on purpose and often uses other people to bring encouragement edification and exhortation, right? We've used the phrase lock-arm a lot over the years and talked many times about what that means. And I'm going to wrap up by releasing again. The prophetic word that it came from 6 years ago because I believe it is very much and now word for 2021.

The almost exactly 6 years ago. Oh my daddy such things come from your throne. You love absolutely love to pour out upon your children and out Rush a surprise an unknown Adventure broken Loose by your outrageous. Love something is coming something new is on the brink of discovery. What it is will surprise us and then we will wonder why we never realized before. He is lifting the veil Revelation like we have never known is about to pour forth. It will spread like a rushing tide with no will of its own something new is coming. Look look like Elijah to the skies. What is mysterious will be mysterious? No longer. My advancing host is on the Move lock eyes with me lock and look you seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart and I want to be found the season is right. Listen to the words around you and wait many will carry a portion together new will be released and Look Lock arms with those around and look for common threads. I am the game master. This is fun. God has appointed us as his heirs. We are created and designed and purpose to advance his kingdom on Earth. And something new is coming. And we get to repent to higher thinking so that we're ready for it. amen, amen

So bad as you're sharing that something just really stood out to me and actually had a flashback to a number of years ago when I was going to school for this thing and it says if you take this beloved book here, which I love every part. I love I love the front of her sons presented to and thank all that's true and the maps They're true. I believe every word in it, but just says you're sharing that Penny it just struck me again. That I've read this whole thing in a western mindset.

So one thing I really love about my bride comes up and teaches his every time she comes up and another teachers here, too, but she brings original language definition.

Did he catch some of them today? It's like wow. Okay, so I'm reading the she's reading the you know, the parable of the son who is gone. But just at this out one tiny raised in there that one tiny word kind of Brings everything to a whole new light. You know we go from glory to glory. There's more Revelation in the word every time you read it. So Penny and Penny and said something at the end here how important it is to the BMS. And yes, it is but understand that were reading it and a western mindset with I would say not Superior language translation. What I'm saying is I would encourage you as your reading through something in the Holy Spirit, like illuminate said to you pods notice where you are and then actually start digging into some original language. Because I understand that when Hebrew Hebrews wrote it when the when the Greek was written like they didn't read it like we read it because their understanding of just the word love is.

So that's all I would add on to a penny. I didn't and you know, I did that in like three minutes is like yes read this consume it part of consumption is knowing me intended ingredients. You know what I'm saying? So we are in an unprecedented season on this planet. We are here on purpose for a purpose with a purpose. And so I just want to encourage you. But as we go through this season this next year. Thanks, and I'm telling you this is going to read like it's never read before to you. Because there's life on it and there's no life everyday.

So when you're taking time to read

take as much time to study. Because again like Penny broad today, it just brings a whole new realm in the scripture.

Yes, I'm just adding on I'm not. Countering I'm adding. Approaching this again with the understand that this is an invitation to more. This isn't a list of to do. Okay got that checked off for my day. Now I can move on. This is an invitation to a superior reality. This is an invitation to the person of God.

Luke 13, I'm sorry. I got Luke 13 verse 17 when he said that's all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things. He was doing. Son asking Holy Spirit Holy Spirit like speak to me about this one verse.

send invitation to a relationship. It's an invitation to the marriage.

Send invitation. The Lord I Thank you that you are so incredibly good you are fantastic and you are wonderful in your beautiful. I thank you that your word is alive. It is living. It is breathing. I thank you that with it brings truth with it brings a relationship.

Not just words.

the whole new dimension

Lord I pray for everybody in here and everybody that's watch and I just pray that as you dive in the scripture into that relationship with the Lord through his word Holy Spirit, you just a lumen 8 that you would speak loudly you would bring things up and out.

Praying for hearts and Minds is to move into this amazing new season.

And even if we've done this in the past, it's still new take that.

the Holy Spirit I invite you into the depths of my heart and my mind.

So with that. Looking at specific verses and getting more out of the original language. My favorite example of this is when Jesus is restoring Peter and they're having the conversation and the English goes do you love me? Yes. I love you. Do you love me? Yes. I love you. Do you love me? Yes. I love you. And I went that's confusing. Why that's that can't be right. So I looked it up and Jesus goes do you Agape? Do you unconditionally loved me where your lay down your life for me Peter goes Lord, you know, I phileo, you know, you're my close friend. Jesus goes do you like I play me Peter goes back. Do you phileo then? Jesus says do you fillet on me? And then that's when Peter was her cuz you said I phileo you like you had already said that that was the level of relationship that he was in at that point. But Jesus was kind of like coming to him being like here's another level. Do you want it? Do you want to relate to me on that? And then it's like okay if you're not ready yet. Are you good at this level and Peter is kind of like heartbroken like, oh there's more kind of thing. But the English to just says because you said it's the third time but that's not what it is in the Greek at all.

and this comes from the Holy Spirit and just everything Penny brought to us today is an acknowledgement of what repentance does. But in order to do that, we need to be aware. So it's kind of like getting the keys to a vehicle, you know, I can get into the vehicle with the key. I can put the key in the ignition. But if I don't actually turn the ignition then I'm still stationary right? I don't put it in drive because I have a purpose. I'm sitting here with the running vehicle that has all the potential in the world. But here we sit.

So I bought my vehicle and drive for a reason because I know where I'm going. I know where the I know it. I know where the Mayan my last stop is.
