It was 1880and the People who believed in the experience of holiness would meet for a "band meetings." Though not leaving their own churches predominatly Methodist Episcopal Confrence. The Kansas State Holiness Association conducted annual campmeetings to promote holiness and in 1893 a campmeeting was held here in Wichita, three to five thousand people came. There were 89 people saved and 149 sanctified. Wouldn't that have been a meeting.
Later the Neosho Valley Holiness Associtaion changed their name to "The Fire Baptized Holliness Association of Southeastern Kansas." Later shortened to just "THe Fire Baptized Holines Church," and then in 1995 to the "Bible Holiness Church"
I like how the forward in our bylaws says it,
"Emphasis was placed upon repentance, restitution and praying through to a definite knowledge of sins forgiven; sanctification or holiness of heart and life, a second work of grace, as clearly taught in the Word; divine healing, and a plain, humble walk with God, blessed by the witness of His Spirit.
These doctrines and standards we believe and are striving to maintain...."
Luke talks about some things most surely believed among us. We have some refrence points.
When we were growing up we liked to go hike in the woods behind our house. My Dad had somewhat of a trail and we would walk down a fairly steep hill to a small creek and play or hike on deeper into the woods. When it was time to go back home you would need something landmarks or some type of refrence point to find your way back. For instance the creek had a certain bend in it that you just knew was where the trail was supposed to be. Then when you finally found the trail you would climb and climb what seemed like forever then you would catch a glimpse of the barn ahh we're almost there. A refrence point something you can point to and say this is this and that is that,
That's what Luke is saying here are some things we believe this will be refrence points on your climb to heaven.
The Bible Holiness Church does not have a creed or confession we have "Articles of Faith" those things most surely believed.
I. The Everlasting God, the Father- Again if I may quote our Bylaws-
"There is but one God, holy, eternal, immortal, invisible, of infinite power, wisdom and justice: the creator of all things that are in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible: the preserver of all creation."
What a mouthful, I won't even try to cover all of this but, I am thankful we know the ONE TRUE GOD.
Holy- the holiness of God an attribute that we see from the garden, When Adam and Eve sinned God could not allow that sin to remain and so they were thrust out of the Garden of Eden. Down thru time we just spoke Wed, night I believe it was of how the Priest were to be completly lined up to the law so they die not.
Eternal - I spoke once on Geneseis 1:1 In the Beginning God he was already there always lived, always is.
We think on human terms but these would have to be magnified an infinity number of times to even get close to the real attribute.
II. God, The Son Jesus
1. God the Son- Manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, bleieved on in the world, received up into glory, took upon Him the Seed of Abraham in the womb of the Virgin Mary
III. God, the Holy Ghost used interchangeably with the Holy Spirit. I know of a few folks who don't like the term, "Holy Spirit" well I think if the Bible uses the term we can too. But I do like the Name "Holy Ghost" it just seems to add a little reverence to Him. Bro McDonald tells us that the Old English for Ghost was Guest, I like that The Holy Guest. active thru the scriptures aslo known as
1. Spirit of God, Truth, Christ
2. Comforter or Paraclete
Some examples of the Trinity in scripture:
1. Creation - In the begining God ELOHIYM - Plural for gods. Not several gods but One God 3 persons. I think we can safely say they are all represented. God the Father, The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and in John 1: 1 In the begining was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.... and all things were made by him, and without him was not anything made taht was made.
2. The Baptisim of Jesus - Father Spoke Spirit descended, Jesus was in the water.
IV. We also Surely believe the Holy Scriptures.
And by that I mean the 66 canonical books in the Authorized Version. The very word of God when freed from any errors by copyists and translators, The Word of God innerant, infallibleand containing all things neccessary to salvation as our sole authority for doctrine.
All scripture is given by inspiriation of God and is profitible bor reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; That the man of God may be perfect, thourghly furnished unto all good works.
Some things most surly believed. We can take the Bible and find them for ourselves and I encourage you to do that, in your personell Bible Study take a theme perhaps one I've mentioned and study it out. Trace it through the Bible it will help solidify your faith.
