Story
A gentleman was in front of a preacher coming out of the church one day. The preacher grabbed him by the hand, pulled him aside and said to him, "You need to join the Army of the Lord!" The man replied, "I’m already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor." The Pastor questioned, "How come I don’t see you except at Christmas and Easter?" He whispered back, "I’m in the secret service. "
Recap/Intro
Christ is better
last week - christ is savior (one way)
Moses - faithful servant to God and his people
Christ is better in all aspects

1. Divine Servant (vv. 1–6)

Choice (vv. 1, 2). Christ the High Priest was appointed by God and was more faithful to God than Moses (see Phil. 2:6-8)
Compensation (v. 3). The builder of the house received more praise than the house itself. Christ built the house; Moses lived in the house (cf. John 1:17).
Creator (v. 4). Christ the creator (see John 1:3; Col. 1:16).
Comparison (v. 5). Moses was a forerunner of the coming Christ.
Moses is faithful, but still a servant
is son, he’s the heir
Christ (v. 6). “But Christ, God’s faithful Son, is in complete charge of God’s house—he lives in us—if we keep up our courage firm to the end, and our joy and our trust in the Lord” (LB; cf. 2 Cor. 5:17).

2. Demanding Servant (7-11)

Problem (vv. 7, 8). Listen to Christ. Don’t make the same mistakes Israel made in the wilderness.
Patience (v. 9). God is a patient God, He was for 40 years, yet they didn’t change
Plight (v. 10). Look at their plight—waiting for man to help and not God. We should look to God (Ps. 46:1).
Punishment (v. 11). Because of indifference they couldn’t enter the promised land (cf. Heb. 11:6).

3. Departing to Sin (12-15)

Sin (v. 12). Note these words, “Departing from the living God” (cf. John 6:66). Here we see backsliding.
Speak (v. 13). lift each other up in the truth each day, Proclaim it
Steadfast (v. 14). See the importance of being steadfast until the end (see Rev. 2:10; Matt. 24:13).
Stubborn (v. 15). “But now is the time. Never forget the warning, ‘Today if you hear God’s voice speaking to you, do not harden your hearts against him, as the people of Israel did when they rebelled against him in the desert’ ” (LB).

4. Disobedience & Destruction (16-19)

Destruction (vv. 16, 17). God was angry with Israel’s complaining. As the result they died in the wilderness.
Disbelief (vv. 18, 19). Those who didn’t die could not enter the promised land. Unbelief is sin.
