Eschatology: Terms and Vocabulary

The Names of God
JEHOVAH -SHALOM (Meaning) - The Lord Is Peace (Application) - God defeats our enemies to bring us peace. Jesus is our Prince of Peace. God brings inner peace and harmony.
Also known as Yahweh Shalom. It’s the name of the altar billed by Gideon at Ophrah to memorialize God’s message “Peace be unto thee.” Isaiah tells us that the Messiah will also be known as the “Prince of Peace.”
Those of you that are in Charismatic circles you might remember this Scripture
Numbers 6:24–27 NKJV
24 “The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” ’ 27 “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.”

Introduction:

Explain 21 judgments of tribulation
We are continuing in chapter 9 dealing with the 6th trumpet this is the 2nd of 3 woes.
In our last study we found the bottomless pit was open releasing destructive demonic forces.
This continued for 5 months but now the judgment is over the 6 trumpet sounds and things get worse
John heard a voice from between the horns of the golden altar (Rev 9:13)
This reminds us of the altar found in the tabernacle. The high Priest would offer incense on the golden altar each morning unto God
This was a place of prayer and intercession for the people and mercy from God
Now the altar has become a place of divine judgment
We serve a loving, merciful, long-suffering God, but when His mercies are denied there is nothing left but wrath and judgment.
Let’s consider the events that follow the 6 trumpet of woe
My title For this morning’s teaching is

The Sixth Trumpet - The Angels From The Euphrates

I. The Release of Fallen Angels

Revelation 9:14 NKJV
14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.”
These are different than the angels we encountered holding the four winds in Chp.7.
Those were holy angels of God, but these are bound revealing their evil nature.
They have been bound of God to be released during the Tribulation.
There are a few things we can learn about these angels.
Notice their location
A. Their Location
They are bound in the great river Euphrates.
It was a river of prominence in the Bible and remains so today,
running through the middle of Iraq. It was there that God created the Garden of Eden.
Man was created there and committed the 1st sin.
Cain slew Abel there. Noah and the flood were in that region.
It was there that the first apostasy sprang up against God as Nimrod conspired to build the tower of Babel.
The Babylonian captivity was there and the final conflict between God and the forces of evil will take place there.
B. Their Preparation
Revelation 9:15a NKJV
15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind.
And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year -
These four angels have been bound of God until a specific moment in time. At that moment during the Tribulation they will be released upon the earth.
God is in sovereign control of every detail of this world. He has bound these angels and they will be loosed at His command. This is just a portion of His plan to judge the sin of this world.
C. Their Intention
Revelation 9:15b NKJV
15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind.
These fallen angels are released for a specific purpose, to slay the third part of men. In 6:8 we saw the pale horse of death kill ¼ of the world’s population.
Prepared for the hour and day and month and year.
This doesn’t include the many that died from the bitter waters of Wormwood in 8:11,
but now 1/3 of the remaining population will be killed.
Death had taken a 5 month holiday
in the preceding verses, but now it is back with a vengeance.
Consider nearly ½ of the world’s population dead by the time the 6th trumpet judgment is over.
No doubt every home on the earth will be faced with death among its members.

II. The Raid of a Fierce Army

Revelation 9:16–19 NKJV
16 Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision: those who sat on them had breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed—by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which came out of their mouths. 19 For their power is in their mouth and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents, having heads; and with them they do harm.
A. Their Abundance (16)
John saw a cavalry of 200 million men.
Remember John represents the Church in Heaven
An army of that size would’ve been unimaginable in John’s day, but it is a reality in ours.
Many scholars believe this army will come from the Orient, likely Communist China.
B. Their Appearance (17, 19)
. This army is seen wearing breastplates of fire,
As the army approached, they appeared to be engulfed in flame. T
Their armor looked red, blue, and yellow, all colors of fire.
This army is marching under the colors and banner of hell.
Their breastplates make a statement about their relationship to evil. This will likely be a human army controlled by Satan.
John uses symbolic language to describe them.
Remember he is from the 1st century trying to describe events that haven’t yet happened in the 21st century.
Their horse’s heads were as the heads of lions—
probably describing their fierce looking nature; fire, smoke, and brimstone out of their mouths—possibly the firing of Ammunition from modern warfare equipment.
V.19For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails:
for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
This possibly refers to tanks, helicopters, or other vehicles firing missiles and warheads from each end of their craft.

III. The Rebellion of Foolish Apostates (20–21)

Revelation 9:20–21 NKJV
20 But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21 And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

Salvation

(Show Slide)

John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
As we bow our heads:
Repeat after me:
1. Lord I believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I asked forgiveness of my sins, and I Except Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In his name I Pray, amen.
