3. Nate Shares About Uncle Dave

I love this song how it shows that even the strongest of believers have difficult battles to face.
and I think of Dave who faced such a mighty battle
and as the song goes, he chose to continue to praise.
and now he is reaping the rewards
of choosing Jesus in the most difficult of times
Hi
My name is Nate, I am an assistant pastor here, i am a close family friend,
I always saw Dave as my second dad growing up, but I called him Uncle Dave.
So it is a hard and difficult honor,
to help celebrate the life of such an amazing ( ) (man of God to so many)
who i loved so much
by helping officiate this service.
On behalf of the family, thank you for being here!
If you know Dave, he taught you to be grateful
“we can all hear him say: “ to have an attitude of gratitude”
and I just think it is a beautiful thing that we are all here now
because we are grateful for him.
So lets celebrate our gratefulness of him!
Whatever your relationship with Dave was you are here because you are grateful for him
we all can say we are grateful for his stories, his insights, his exhortation, his correction,
all the the sweet moments, all the fun times, and all the laughter!
Like I said, I grew up with uncle Dave my whole life!
Brian his son has been my homie since we were like 3 and 1/2 years old and still close to this day.
So from all the camping trips, vacations, spending the night, hangouts, bday parties, new years parties , and our great superbowl parties
there is just so many memories, lessons, moments!
from small things I learned from Dave like:
keeping gum in your car,
the cheap brands is probably cheap for a reason,
little pieces of wisdom, fun facts, and advice, (often had a saying or a verse)
I remember several times Dave pulling me aside to speak some wisdom into my life!
The last time was last super bowl party (covid)
It was a quality moment with Dave, I didnt know that it would be the last one face to face!
but he shared some wisdom with me
I will share what he said in a little bit.
another thing from Dave is....
if your going to tell a story tell it good. (best stories
and Dave knew how to hype something up.
One time I was over at his house and out of know where he tells me “dude you gotta try my water” and he pours me a glass of water and shows me his Rever Osmosis system and starts telling me how it works , I had no clue what he was talking about but all I knew was it was a really good cup of water and whenever I get a house I want one… so when we bought our house and it had an RO systtem, Dave was the first person I thought of!
and thats just one thing! Dave could get you hyped up about anything or any place.
the last small thing I want to share with you that I loved so much about Dave was that he
would take good care of the things he had
organize well (I always loved how organized his garage was), and how he had like so many totes, and labels for the things he had.
Even his fishing tackle box was neat.
but after careful thought I found that there is 3 major things that Dave taught us all!
so when I have family and friends share soon
and also all throughout the video
you will see these 3 things highlighted in Dave’s incredible lasting legacy
lets all say the first major things that Dave taught us all....
1. Gratitude
gratefulness is an amazing word because it is combination of the words contentment, and thankfulness.
Dave lead an example of this in so many ways!
One way he and Donna did
roasted me and Megan on our 1 year anniversary.
To be short I was taking Megan on her first camping trip
and so I had a huge 4 page list front and back of everything we will need to make the trip enjoyable for megan!
So our campsite was pretty extra!
One of those days we met up with Dave and Donna to fish with them
and we find out that they are sleeping
in the back of their SUV with their fishing gear.
I told megan, these are pros.
They were just grateful to be at silver lake with each other fishing
and so they were content with a few
and thankful for what they had
Which is gratitude defined
and thats just small example of Daves attitude of gratitude
the 2nd major things that Dave taught us all....
2. Enjoy
remember i mentioned
the last thing Dave told me face to face during his last super bowl?
he told me how he has learned to live with the fact that
any day could be his last day
and so enjoy the days God has given to you.
If you knew Dave, you know he enjoyed many things, people, and places!
He didn't waste time....
One of His sayings was “dont wait till you retire”
So throughout this service you will see many things, people, and places he enjoyed.
The third, last, and greatest thing that stands out to me
so much about Dave:
3. Love
I know it sounds so generic,
but if you know Dave it is 100% real
He loved his family, and friends so incredibly much
so much it shined right through him!
and you are about to see pictures of that!
But instead of me talking about it
because I can go on and on
I am going to have some Daves loved ones come up to share about it.
and as they celebrate Dave and share these wonderful stories, moments, lessons
your going to hear many wonderful things about Dave
but notice those 3 things be highlighted about
his love, things he enjoyed, and his attitude of gratitude
Then Ill come back and I will share what Dave wanted me to share to all of you!

6. Dave Does Worship Song

1. Well Done - The Afters

7. Nate Shares Gospel & Closes

Dave got to experience what we just heard in that song!
I just think of Daves excited face!
A lot of them captured in that beautiful video that Brian and Kaylee made
Just think of what Daves face was like when he heard the words
“well done”
Psalm 100:4 describes what the first moments of heaven is like for someone like Dave
Psalm 100:4
“ enter into his Gates with thanks giving”
Jesus said that He is the gate (John 10:9)
So Dave entered heaven saying “thank you Jesus”
then Psalms 110:4 says
“and into his courts with praise”
the courts would be like the center place of heaven
and that word for praise is “Tehillah”
its the highest form of Biblical Hebrew praise.
meaning to rave and go wild!
So Dave is in Heaven excited!
We also know that there is eating in the kingdom of God
and im just going to say that Jesus clearly loved fish...
Im going to share with you something I think,
If there is kingdom fishermen, Dave is probably signed up!
and when we get to heaven he is going to show us the best fishing spots, the glory hole, and the best equipment
but what I do know is that
Dave is enjoying heaven right now!
Jesus that he loved and talked to so many others about
He has witnessed, He is with!
it might feel like your time with Dave is over
but for Dave he doesnt feel that way
He has a better perspective then us
that we will all be together again soon.
The adventure has just started for Dave!
And one day many of us will there with him again!
yes we wont get to see him eating jalepeno poppers this super bowl, or
celebrate all those birthdays, and times together
but we can have greater days to look forward to with Dave!
in a perfected, in corrupted world,
just think of how much better those adventures with Dave will be!
and until then
we have pieces of who Dave is
to hold onto until that day,
which is what Dave wants me to share with you
the first Dave wants for you
is to have
Gratitude
but see God didn't promise heaven on earth today,
and there is suffering, there is corruption,
and maybe you have been so focused on yourself
whether with your faults, mistakes or things not going right in your life
and so you think that so much needs to happen
before you can be grateful.
then the 2nd thing Dave wants for you
is to
2. Enjoy
maybe your sad, disappointed, discouraged,
you feel guilty to enjoy
and you think that it is wrong for you to enjoy
or maybe it seems impossible for you to enjoy things
with what you are going through.
then the 3rd thing Dave wants for you
is to
3. Love
maybe bitterness has gotten in the way to love those close to you
and to be loved....
and deep down you want to be able to love and cherish them like you see Dave did
and you want to be loved by somebody
but you got something thats damaging your relationship with them and ultimately yourself.
Now not being able to love, enjoy, or have gratitude is not a result of you not being like Dave
it is a result of sin
Dave made me a laugh allot! Esp his stories. But one time he didn't mean to make me laugh, but I was!
So like a lot of days when i was a kid I got to the front of Brians house and I see a huge pile off dirt
and Dave put a sign on the pile of dirt that said “Clean Dirt”
i know what that means now
but as I kid I was like “that doesnt work”
dirt is dirty”
and I thought Dave was just being funny to the whole neighborhood
well it is true for sin…
Sin, is sin..... and it is dirty.
there is no clean sin,
we all have sin. (Ro 3:23)
its against God.
whether its sin of the world or sin of you
and in some way you and the world will be made right with God
either through
judgment or forgiveness
and the only way to be forgiven is
seen in Romans 10:9
Romans 10:9 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
or
John 6:29 NLT
29 Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
you may say I believe Jesus is THE savior
but do you believe Jesus to be YOUR Savior
There is a major difference between saying Jesus is God
and Jesus is MY God.
your God is who you live for
You may say Jesus is God
but if He is not your God
your living for something else.
Many people say Jesus is the Savior but they live for themselves
for their own wants and desires -
which actually just makes themselves god.
See Jesus was Dave’s God
and that meant He lived for God.
Which took the pressure of sin and circumstances off himself
and onto His Savior
to be able to be grateful, enjoy, and love
So if you want to hear Jesus say well done,
if you want the hope of eternal life
if you want Jesus with you through your difficult battles
if you want t to have an attitude of gratitude
and to enjoy
and to love and be loved
You need to get your attention off yourself, your sin, your circumstances
and onto Jesus!
Who loves you for who you are! Who wants to restore the damage done
starting with your broken relationship with God by trusting in Jesus to be YOUR Savior!\
\
and then you can allow God to be your God, and let Him work in your life in powerful ways just like we saw God use Dave
Pray
If you choose Jesus today or have chosen Jesus
I think the best verse for us to close out Dave’s Memorial service
and something he would say for all of us is in
Hebrews 12:28 ESV
28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,

8. Dismiss Everyone

Thank you for coming!
If you accepted Jesus please come and talk to me,
For everyone, who is here we have food and outside the foyer and down the hall
Lets maintain an attitude of gratitude
