Suffering of the Righteous is for Discipline

14 “What are mortals, that they could be pure,

or those born of woman, that they could be righteous?

15 If God places no trust in his holy ones,

if even the heavens are not pure in his eyes,

16 how much less mortals, who are vile and corrupt,

who drink up evil like water!

7 “He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous;

But with kings on the throne

He has seated them forever, and they are exalted.

8 “And if they are bound in fetters,

And are caught in the cords of affliction,

9 Then He declares to them their work

And their transgressions, that they have magnified themselves.

How many are my iniquities and my sins? Make me know my transgression and my sin. Why dost thou hide thy face, and count me as thy enemy? (13:23–24)
