The Names of God

Introduction:

My title For this morning’s teaching is

I. He Speaks With Thunder

Revelation 10:3 NKJV
3 and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars. When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices.
The voice of this mighty angel will be as when a lion roars. He is not the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, as some say,
but his voice will be as the voice of Jesus when he is angry.
He will speak as Jesus would speak,
and what he will say will be the same as Jesus said it.
At the same time he speaks, a voice in heaven will roar like the seven thunders.
The seven thunders is a symbol for the voice of God*.
He will make a strong statement after this angel speaks.
Craig S. Keener - The image of thunder is appropriate. Ancients widely understood that the supreme God ruled thunder, and in some traditions thunder could sound like God’s voice (John 12:29)
David Jeremiah with C. C. Carlson - This is like a seven-gun salute in the skies.

II. Seal It Up

Revelation 10:4 NKJV
4 Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them.”
God will make an emphatic remark in his voice of seven thunders that even John will be able to hear and understand because he will start to write it down.
No one knows why John was prevented from recording this mysterious message, but he heard and knows much more than he was allowed to reveal.
And people don’t have to know everything to trust God or be saved.
Just remember that thunder is also a symbol of God’s wrath*, and that what he utters will probably be followed up with divine judgment.
Tim LaHaye - Since the Apostle John was commanded by the voice to seal up their utterances, it is foolish to conjecture any further.
Oliver B. Greene - Already set before us are blood, tears, famine, heartache, and heartbreak; killing, misery, hail, fire, burning mountains, demon monstrosities, men begging to die and unable to do so. Surely what John was forbidden to write must have been beyond human imagination and understanding.

III. The Time To Act is Now!

Revelation 10:5–6 NKJV
5 The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised up his hand to heaven 6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer,
Just as a witness raises his right hand to take the oath to tell the whole truth in a courtroom, this angel will also raise his hand toward heaven to swear to tell God’s truth.
His oath will emphasize the fact that he has the authority and power of God behind him.
The Tribulation Saints asked in Revelation 6:10–11: “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” (NKJV).
Then each of them was given a white robe, and told to delay a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed was completed.
Here the mighty angel will say its time to stop the delay.
When the time comes for the seventh angel to sound the seventh trumpet (When the time comes for the third “trumpet woe,” which will release the 7 bowl judgments),
God will complete his plan. It will be the answer the martyred Tribulation Saints have been waiting for.
God will no longer delay his vengeance for their persecution and death.
To the believers on earth who have been running, hiding, and waiting, these words will mean they will no longer have to wait for God to move against the wicked.
And to the unbelievers on earth, it will mean God is now going to fulfill his wrath with no more delay.
This message should be a word of consolation to the saved
and a word of terror to the lost.
In a moment, the awesome, final judgments of God will start falling, and nothing will stop them.
Jim Combs - I submit that the mighty angel is announcing that time as we know it, measured time from the dawn of history, is about to change radically, that a process involving 3 1/2 more years will now commence, consummating in the ultimate establishment of the millennial reign and the final judgments of Israel, the nations and unbelievers.
N. W. Hutchings - At Nineveh God changed His mind when Nineveh repented. However, we read in the last two verses of chapter nine that men on earth were determined not to repent. Therefore, God is justified in completing the judgments for the last half of the Tribulation. There would be no further delay in ending man’s inhumanity to man and lifting nature from the curse of sin.
David Hocking - Although at times we wonder if God knows or cares about what is taking place on earth, the Bible assures us that he does.

Salvation

(Show Slide)
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
As we bow our heads:
Repeat after me:
1. Lord I believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I asked forgiveness of my sins, and I Except Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In his name I Pray, amen.
