John 2:1–11 NASB
1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; 2 and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” 6 Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him. 9 When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom, 10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.
“The Gospel According to John” series intro:
The theme verse for our series is John 20:31
John 20:31 NASB
31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
The purpose of this study is threefold. First, as we go through this together we will learn more and more about Jesus. We will get to know Him better, understand Him better and our faith and trust in Him will grow.
Second, as we go through this study together we will better know and understand the life that only Jesus can give. Life forever and life to the full. We will discover how we can know for certain that we will be in heaven and we will learn how to live on earth like we are going to live in heaven.
And third, we are not only knowing and growing in these things together, as we go through this we are being equipped to share these things with others.

[Focus Text]
(v. 11) “This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.”

Jesus has transformational power.

(v. 7) “Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.”
Jesus transformed water into wine. It was a miracle.
A miracle is a humanly impossible, good, kind and gracious act of God that defies science and natural laws.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

Jesus has transcendent power.

(v. 9-10) “9 When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom, 10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.”
The wine Jesus made tasted far better than anything they had tasted before.
Psalm 34:8 NASB
8 O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
Psalm 86:8 NASB
8 There is no one like You among the gods, O Lord, Nor are there any works like Yours.

Jesus has transmittable power.

(v. 8-11) “8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him. 9 When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom, 10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.”
The people witnessed the power of Jesus. They saw it. They smelled it. They tasted it. Some got to be a part of it by hearing what Jesus said and doing what Jesus told them to do. And that is the key.
In order to know and experience the transformational, transcendent, transmittable power of Jesus Christ you have to apply (v. 5).
(v. 5) “His mother said to the servants, ‘Whatever He says to you, do it.’”

We have to listen to what He says.

(v. 5) “...Whatever He says to you...”

We have to learn what He says.

(v. 5) “...Whatever He says...”

We have to live out what He says.

(v. 5) “...do it.”
