FAMILY RESEMBLANCE

Intro. - Becoming Your Parents
Living Like The Younger Brother Part 1
He had his own plan for life; he want to be free to live it. He wanted restrictions removed, to set this own goals, to determine his own values, to enjoy his life.
Pursuing this plan to the end, he found himself enslaved
He did not find freedom as he pursued his own plan for life.
He found that he was bound in a different, more ruthless way
Instead of find himself and the meaning of his life, he lost himself
Living Like The Younger Brother Part 2
Then he found himself.
He realized that freedom does not mean merely the absence of restraints or the living of live as one pleases; it is a particular way of being bound.
As in a marriage, for example, we are free to be unfaithful and to refuse to be restricted by the marriage itself, but to exercise this freedom is to burden our lives and the lives of others with guilt and ruin and distress.
The freedom to be unfaithful can lead to a more ruthless way of being bound should we exercise it. Likewise, we find the real meaning of marriage in choosing to be bound to someone in love.
Living With the Father
In his own plan for life, he lost the life for which he was seeking.
When he came to the father, he found the meaning of life which he had lost.
The import thing was to be with the father, even if this meant being a servant
Man’s basic need is not simply to find and develop his life. Rather, he is a child of god, and he finds himself only in this relationship for which he was created.
Should he refuse or reject, the aching void in his life testifies to that which was intended by God.
Living Like The Older Brother
There is also the older brother who prided himself in being always with the father, yet he, too, was lost.
He tolerated the restrictions placed upon him in order to effect his own gain.
His interests were not in relationships, but in gain. The relationship was noting; the inheritance was everything.
He, too, lived by his ownplan
