Should not be a superficial allegiance, but a deep seated core principle v37

not just a matter of emotion, but of self devotion
all our powers and abilities of will, mind, and affection should be given to God - the creator and preserver of life

Establishes both position and prominence v38

based upon a supreme calling (of God) by way of spiritual authority
(in life) it is possible to be 1st but not the greatest
it is possible to be last and not the worst

Shows a social and moral responsibility v39

many of us want to stop at loving God
however, when we love God we have a social and moral responsibility to love our neighbor
your love of God should translate into your love of self and love of neighbor

Creates foundation of our faith relationship v40

how can we love God whom we’ve never seen and hate our brothers and sisters we see everyday
