The Ten Commandments
20 And God spoke all these words:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

As the Holy Spirit Guidance - I would like to talk about
Preparing for the Tabernacle

Intro - story

Intro
Talking Point 1
- growing up kids would tease each other on the playgroud
- if they thought that little boy and girl liked each other
- megan and tyler sitting in the tree (love, marriage, baby carriage)
- it turns out that life is not that simple (womens history month)
- Most women are mindful about the man they choose
- women are have to be more picky because there is a lot at stake
- the relationship game can be challenging
-they will pick someone they have watched for a while
-people would think that this person is an unlikely choice
Talking Point 2
-but she sees something in this man that no one else can see
-they date and they begin to learn each other
-she helps him out and in many cases turns him into a better person than he was when he met her
-so they decide that they will get married
-but before they begin to make the final wedding plans (marriage covenant)
-She will tell him that before they get married there are some standards she wants to remind him of
-there were some things he used to do before they dated that he needs to remember he cannot go back to
-she is in this for the long haul and she wants to be sure that he is committed for the long haul as well
Intro - Anti-thesis (the world view)
These are contrary points that you will disprove
Talking Point 1
-Sometimes in our relationship with God we can lose sight of the covenant that we have made with him.
-We sometimes think that it is a free for all
-it is very easy for us to get slack along the way
Talking Point 2
-sometimes it's necessary for us to get a reminder about the relationship that we are in with the almighty God
-but things are very simple
-we are presented with 10 commandments-what??!!
-but it all boils down to two things
-love your God and love God’s people
Intro - Thesis
(connect back to scripture storyline)
Recap the scripture story – retell and give the overview
As God considers his relationship with the children of Israel and how he has delivered them from slavery and death. He ultimately desires and is making plans to commune with them on a permanent basis. He makes these plans as he will be instructing them to build a Tabernacle so that he can continue his intimate relationship with them . But as they have crossed over the Jordan River and as they come up on Mount Sinai this passage is about how God speaks to Moses and the children of Israel to establish a covenant agreement with them which will be the basis for their relationship as they continue to move into God's promises it's not so much about do's and don'ts but about what God expects for us so that we can live in prosperity and have an eternal life now. (new concept) Talk about hammurabi's code.(explain it) Talk about this concept was revolutionary . This concept brought every man on the same level. Explain how hammurabi's code was hierarchal explain how hammurabi's code was racist and sexist . God's ways frees us from racism and sexism. The biblical authors decided to make easy to remember so they group these to equal the number of fingers in your hand.(this is h how ended up with 10 but the concept is bigger than 10) refer to leviticus 19 (you see the 10 commandments again)-
Proposition
- What is the claim? (relevance for today)
The scripture wants us to do (what?) During this time of lent we shall take the time to reflect on God's covenant agreement with us as written in the 10 commandments.
The scripture wants us to do this by (how?) This is a time for us to examine all areas of our lives and align them with the will of God.
The scripture wants us to take action towards who/what/whereby (to who?) This requires a close examination.
- What is the focus? (pull from your exegesis form)
This is about checking our hearts and our minds in our actions to ensure that we are continually committed to the will of God in our life. which is the central, controlling and unifying theme of the sermon. One word here: We must look inside.
Keeping a covenant agreement
- What is the function?
The hearers will be change by the message
The 10 commandments are not do's and don'ts but God communicating his desire to dwell with us and communicating his expectations.
People don’t realize that: because_they were realized it's not about rules but about relationship.
As a result, they will ______________ differently
God wants a relationship with us and his requirements are not overbearing.
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about It is more than a list of do's and don'ts it's about loving God and loving your neighbor. If you are just sticking to what’s on the list you might be falling short. if you are just keeping the 10 commandments you are falling short.

- Pastor – I am a Christian-10 commandents are Old Testament – did Jesus say he came to get rid of the law.

Christ Came to Fulfill the Law

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
