“The Relationship of Believers to each other”

John 15:12-17 (NKJV)
Before I get started let me give you some background on the book of John.
This fourth Gospel has the clearest statement of purpose in the Bible. John selected the signs he used for the specific purpose of creating intellectual ( that you may believe) and spiritual (that believing you may have life) conviction about the Son of God. The key verb in John is “believe,” and requires both knowledge and the power of using one’s will.
The main theme of this gospel is the dual response of faith and unbelief to the Person of Jesus Christ. Those who place their faith in the Son of God have eternal life, but those who reject Him are under the condemnation of God. Easter is 2 weeks away and we celebrate the Resurrection of the Son of God. Those of us who already has a relationship with Him there is nothing in this world that is greater than this holiday.
I personally get excited when I have an oppurtunity to preach from the book of John. I love how it starts off telling us who Jesus is. Just to remind you that Jesus was in the beginning and when he showed up in the manager that wasn’t His first time here. But that is another sermon. I always tell you don’t take my word for it but read it for yourself. Verse 1 chapter 1 tells us “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Verse 2 reminds us that “He was in the beginning with God.” Verse 14 says “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Stay with me saints while the Holy Spirit speaks. The last 2 weeks we talked about unity. Let me remind you that God is not the author of confussion. I always say it’s all about love at the end of the day. God gave us His only begotten Son. That was the most precious and greatest gifts ever given.
Think about some of the gifts you have given to your love ones. Think about how happy they were. When we acknowledge who Jesus is and have that right relationship with Him the father accepts us and rewards us. We have an obligation to each other also.
*****Our relationship to each other******
This brings me to my first point.
*Obey the commandment that Christ gave us in verse 12.
This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Verse 13 says Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
Jesus came to this world as the God man to lay down His life for us. He did His Father’s will not His will. Last week I told you how Jesus set aside His diety and put on human flesh and took on the role as a servant. Please don’t forget that Jesus committed no sin. He laid down His life for all of us. That’s love!!!! A lot of us had said we would give up our life for a love one but if you are listening to me today that hasn’t happened. It’s so important that we don’t loose focus of who Jesus is. He died for us while we were yet sinners, before we had a relationship with Him. All of us should be telling someone about the good news. Our lights should shine so others might see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. Regardless where we go our light should shine. On the job, in the grocery store, in our neighborhood, at the doctor’s office, in the restruant, in our homes and certainally in the church.
Biblical love is the decision to compassionately, righteously, responsibly, and sacrifically seek the well-being of another.
Jesus modeled this love when He laid down His life for us.
My second point
*We are Jesus Christ friends*
Verse 14 says “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” This is conditional like all the promises in the bible.
We are related through the blood of Jesus Christ. This means the priority by being obedient as a child of God takes first place in our lives. Never forget that Jesus said that I am with you always, even until to the end of the age.
The best part of this is regardless of what happens to us Jesus will be with us for eternity. Through trials and tribulation, through loneliness, sickness, money troubles, relationship problems.
What A Friend We Have In Jesus.
All our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry , everything to God in prayer.
Verse 15 “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing: but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
My next point is.....................
**Jesus chose us!!!!
You can shout right here. Verse 16 says “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
Nothing takes Jesus by surprise. God’s plan would be fulfilled. Remember Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. Some of the fruit that we beared wasn’t always good in the sight of God. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
Thank God for His only begotten Son Jesus.
He shed His precious blood for us.
I ask you today…What can wash away my sin? What can make me whole again? NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS!!!!!!!!!
Oh! how precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow; no other fount I know, NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS.
My final point for today.
*****Remain in Christ Love******
Verse 17 says “These things I command you, that you love one another.”
If you keep focus on Jesus, he will make his love both your comfort and your strenght.
Keep your eyes on him because he is for you.
The essence of heaven is the uninterrupted knowledge of God.
God knows that when we see him for who he really is, we will never see life the same way again.
“God is looking for servants not celeberties.”
As I take my seat here’s a little food for thought....
If your soul is in danger, look above, Jesus completey saves; He will lift you by His love out of the angry waves. He’s the Master of the sea, Billows His will obey; He your Savior wants you to be saved today.
When nothing else could help LOVE lifted me.......
God Bless You. Remember only what you do for Christ will last.
The doors of the church is open.
