Take off the grave clothes

John 11:38-44 (read from my Bible)
born again—salvation—our identity is BRAND NEW.
we do not SMELL the same… what do you think that means??

Good smell & bad smell

2 Corinthians 2:14–16 NASB95
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?
Notice who “smells” us-”those who are being saved and those who are perishing”
Those who are believers & those who will accept the gospel because of our sacrifice will smell a sweet aroma, the fragrance of Christ. Those who reject the gospel, have hardened hearts, will smell death still. They smell something though, you cannot choose whether or not someone smells you! You either smell good or bad, they gonna smell it either way. Nobody can turn off their nose by their own will!
How does our life of dying to ourselves- of sacrifice- smell to God? is it a pleasing aroma to Him? Gen. 8:21, Ex. 29:18, Lev. 1:9, Num. 15:3 Today we no longer have to offer sacrifices of burnt offerings (Jesus took care of that once and for all), we GET to offer our bodies to God as a living sacrifice, this is our worship! (Romans 12:1)
Our worship is walking in obedience!
What does this look like practically?
We looked at taking off our old selves, our “dead”, pre-born-again state that smelled GROSS, how do we smell good?

We take off AND PUT ON.

Colossians 3:1–17 ESV
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Now look back to 2 Cor. 2:14 . do we make ourselves smell good or does God do it in us??
reread it
Hebrews 13:20-21
Remember this verse? Dwell in that. Soak it in.
We are born again. We are called to abide in Jesus and His Truth. that means dwelling in the gospel, thinking on it, adorning it, living humbly as you realize how that changes you. as you do this, you will begin to walk in obedience. you will smell like life.
