Jeremiah 31:31-34
New International Version
31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to[a] them,[b]” declares the Lord. 33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

(connect back to scripture storyline)
Recap the scripture story – retell and give the overview
this passage is about how God desires to renew his covenant with Israel. He desires to renew the covenant not because he has been unfaithful but because the children of israel were unable to follow the covenant of the 10 commandments and the law period. God does this because he desires to do all that he can do to keep his promises. And with this renewed covenant you will see the life is better on the other side because God will send his Holy Spirit to live in our hearts.
Proposition
- What is the claim? (relevance for today)
The scripture wants us to do (what?) We must be receptive to what god wants to do in our life
The scripture wants us to do this by (how?) we can do this by reading God's word and allowing the presence of his Holy Spirit to rain in our life
The scripture wants us to take action towards who/what/whereby (to who?) this will come about with a change of heart as opposed to a change of mind
- What is the focus? (pull from your exegesis form)
This passage centers around _________________
Renewal and returning to God
- What is the function?
The hearers will be change by the message because following Jesus is not a matter of your logic or your mind it is a matter of being receptive in your heart
As a result, they will ______________ differently
People don’t realize that: God wants to do a new thing in our life but we have to be ready to receive the new thing
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about God wants to keep his promises and he will go through what he needs to do to fulfill his promises in our life _
Sermon Points
Intro wrap and three points you will cover
Today God is/we must remember:
1. A new and different covenant
2. Heart covenant/closer relationship
3. Intimate relationship/internal not external
Transition from Intro to Point 1
***Good Transition here tie everything together**
Set up a good transition to your next point. Put something here that you will read!

Point 1 – A new and different covenant title

31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to[a] them,[b]” declares the Lord.
Background/ - Subpoint 1- Title….
Explain What biblical writer is saying – draw from your exegesis work..deep explanation.

The scripture wants us to take action towards who/what/whereby (to who?) this will come about with a change of heart as opposed to a change of mind
***try to develop two subpoints for each point…
Scripture Excerpt 1 - Subpoint 1- Title…. 31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel
Talking Point 1
- God renews his covenant because we were unable to keep it
- God shows us grace
- Is God saying that he failed? No he is showing us how much he loves us.
- How many times do you forgive? (70X7)
Talking Point 2
- COVID scattered us from out buildings (were we keeping our covenant with God?)
Scripture Excerpt 2 - Subpoint 2- Title…. 32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to[a] them,[b]” declares the Lord.
Talking Point 1
- After you Lenten fast will your walk be strengthened.
- Will you closer to God. Or were you just hungry for 40 days
- After COVID, are we going to do ministry differently?
- Are we going to do things like our ancestors or will be try to do some new things
- Ministry Partnership (we can set up new partnership)
- Small church big impact
- God wants to restore us but he wants to bring life back to something that is new instead of brining life back to that which was broken
- Resurrection and Recusitation (hmmm)
(Christ was resurrected – not resuscitated) – He was new (there was still evidence of scars but he was new)

Supporting Scripture

Psalm 51:1-12 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

SupporSupporting Scripture

Romans
5 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[b] boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Scripture Excerpt 2 - Subpoint 2- Title…. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Talking Point 1
- breaking up with the Devil
- Your heart will change just have a break up with the devil. Oh you know to do it. It’s not you it’s me. We’ve grown apart. I’m going to go find myself
Kirk Franklin says it best
Hello Fear Before you sit down there's something I need to explain Since you're here I think I should tell you since we last talked things have changed See I'm tired of being broken-hearted So I made a list and you're on it All my hopes and my dreams You took from me I want those back before you leave
Hello Fear I knew I would see you, You have a hard time letting go See these tears, Take a good look cause, soon they won't fall anymore God's healing my hurful places That seat that was yours now is taken I'm no longer afraid, See I'm better this way And one more thing before you leave

Point 3 – Intimate relationship/internal not external

34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
Explain What biblical writer is saying – draw from your exegesis work..deep explanation.
- What is the function?
The hearers will be change by the message because following Jesus is not a matter of your logic or your mind it is a matter of being receptive in your heart and and allow the blood of Christ to change you and the Holy Spirit to transform you
As a result, they will ______________ differently
People don’t realize that: God wants to do a new thing in our life but we have to be ready to receive the new thing
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about God wants to keep his promises and he will go through what he needs to do to fulfill his promises in our life _
Scripture Excerpt 1 - Subpoint 1- Title…. 34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, Talking Point 1
- God says that you experience me on your own. Yo don’t have to depend on others to know who I am

SupporSupporting Scripture

Psalm 119:1-11
9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. 12 Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees.

Illustration closing (Jesus/Relanvnce/to the cross/testimony section)

Saw a picture of the heart. A heart is not red. The heart musclel is actually white. It does not get red until the blood is pumped into the heart.
We can’t have a heart and love for God until we allow the blood of Jesus the work in our lives. We can expect the spirit of God to dwell in use until we have accepted His son and the blood sacrifice of Jesus.
1 Peter 1:18-19 says, "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things.... But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot."
Colossians 1:20, "And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself...."
Revelation 12:11 says, "And they overcame him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb...." The devil doesn't want you to learn about the blood. He hates it!
