Eschatology: Terms and Vocabulary

Introduction

The topic this morning is entitled:
“First Fruits of the Resurrection”
The text is found in:
1 Corinthians 15:20 NKJV
20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
We are going to get there but Let’s take the scenic route this morning
Jesus was buried late Friday afternoon in the garden tomb of Joseph of Arimathea,
and His body remained there all of Saturday. Early Sunday—by normal Jewish reckoning, the third day—Jesus rose from the dead.
Let’s begin with the resurrection

I. The Resurrection

Luke 24:1 NKJV
1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.
Early in the morning as they were going up the hill
In the back of their minds, They had to be thinking How are we going to move the stone away?
It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them,
Noticed: they know the stone was too large for them to move but they went anyway!
How many of us look at our personal situations And think that they are impossible to fix! (We keep going and trust God for the solution to our problems)
Romans 8:11 NKJV
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
That’s a word for somebody this morning! Receive it
After the resurrection, As proof, Jesus appeared in many places

II. Appearances by Jesus

John 20:19 NKJV
19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
Jesus appears to His disciples
Is there anyone filled with fear this Easter Morning?
After the resurrection the disciples Were filled with fear
They were hiding behind closed doors (Explain) They had killed Jesus, they thought they were next!
Closed doors cannot keep us from the love of God.
Romans 8:39 NKJV
39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Remember when Jesus appears to His disciples on the road to Emmaus?
2. Jesus appears on the Road to Emmaus
Luke 24:13–16 NKJV
13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.
Imagine talking to a friend about some difficulties you’re struggling with
And right in the middle of your praise and worship time Jesus shows up!
Whatever you’re experiencing in your life today, Jesus has the ability to give you insight on the matter
Jesus gave insight and opened the Scriptures to the two disciples as they walked together.
Luke 24:31–32 NKJV
31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
Our hearts should burn with the word of God so that we can spread the gospel throughout the world.

III. The Great Commission

Matthew 28:18–20 NKJV
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
The Great Commission
If you don’t know the Lord as Savior What an awesome opportunity to receive Christ during this Easter Holiday.

Salvation

(Show Slide)
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
As we bow our heads:
Repeat after me:
1. Lord I believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I asked forgiveness of my sins, and I Except Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In his name I Pray, amen.

Communion

I want to take a few moments to give you the opportunity to ask forgiveness of any sin in your life.
Let us pray over the elements (Cross Exposed) in the name of the father, the son, and the Holy Ghost
Read first Corinthians 11:23- 26 - (Taking the elements together)
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
