New International Version
The Empty Tomb
20 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”
3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.
13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”
“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).
17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

SERMON TITLE
Pray man, Pray!!

Intro - story

Intro
Talking Point 1
- 2010 A&E premired the show Storage Wars
- explain the rules you can look inside but you can’t touch. (act this out)
- Act out the bidding!!
- some go through and look. Nah..that don’t look Good I’m gonna pass on that.
- many times they would find valuables, jewely antiques.
- the people on the show would bid on the items
- When people would bring things to their storage shed sometimes they would leave them - storage wars sheds things get left and forgotten – no intent to retrieve.
What would it be like to be forgotten and left. (you have value, you have worth)
- what are the value of things inside
- there is a bid for what people feel has value
- in a matter of moments as people begin to understands what is contained.
- They then begin to begin to understand what is happening inside the storage shed
Talking Point 2
- He told them that you don’t have to go in the inside to know there is value in the storage shed.
- Have heard that if some sheds to get buyers they throw the items in the dump.
- Sometimes people would not even bid on the sheds because
- When the crucified Christ, the had beat him, they placed him in that tomb they had left him there for dead. NO ONE not even the disciples had any intent on needing to return to the tomb.
Intro - Anti-thesis (the world view)
These are contrary points that you will disprove
Talking Point 1
- We look at the tomb where Jesus was placed.
- They had beaten him.
- They had left him for dead
- They had thrown him away and placed stone in front of the grave to ensure that no one would be coming for him.
- essential throwing Christ out in the dump.
- Were things all over
- what happens in an empty tomb
- But in today Christ has said I have victory over death hell and the grave and have gotten up with all power in my hands.
-
Intro - Thesis
(connect back to scripture storyline)
Recap the scripture story – retell and give the overview
This passage is about resurrection and the empty tomb and what it reveals to us about Christ in our lives. It also reveals how each person was affected and how each person had a different perspective of the resurrection it's not about looking in to the tOMB but it's about looking out of the TOMB
Proposition
- What is the claim? (relevance for today)
The scripture wants us to do (what?) the experience of resurrection will change us. It will cause a resurrection of our minds our hearts and our spirits.
The scripture wants us to do this by (how?) By having an expectation and looking for Christ to show up this is what we shall do.
The scripture wants us to take action towards who/what/whereby (to who?) we shall take action towards Jesus by our expectations by our experience and by our excuses
- What is the focus? (pull from your exegesis form)
This passage centers aroundthe passions centers around Christ in his resurrection power and knowing that we can have it daily
________________________________________
________________________________________ which is the central, controlling and unifying theme of the sermon.
The theme is related to:_epiphany -seeing something that is obvious or that has been there all the time.
- What is the function?
The hearers will be change by the message because_the hearing and the seeing. One must be positioned and postured first.
As a result, they will position themselves at the tomb in order to see Jesus. OR when they find themselves in tomb situations they will position and posture themselves to see Jesus.
People don’t realize that: Christ still shows up at the the tomb to let you know what you thought was dead is now alive.
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about Will you look inside the tomb or will you look out from the tomb to see the possibilities.
Sermon Points
Intro wrap and three points you will cover
Today God is/we must remember:
1. Evidence
2. Expectations
3. Experience
Transition from Intro to Point 1
***Good Transition here tie everything together**
Set up a good transition to your next point. Put something here that you will read!

Point 1 – Section title - EVIDENCE (draw directly from scripture)

Background/ - Subpoint 1- Title….
Explain What biblical writer is saying – draw from your exegesis work..deep explanation.
***try to develop two subpoints for each point…
Scripture Excerpt 1 - Subpoint 1- Title…. 8
Talking Point 1
- on disciple outruns the other but does not go in (is this what we do in ministry quick to start church programs but don’t see them out to the end)
- Christ lives – and he’s ah..he’ll pop up and sometime. (they still don’t get that he has resurrected)
- God can give you evidence after evidence after evidence and sometimes we still don’t get it!
- we still won’t evangelize
- they don’t tell anyone the site on this news.
- what is the evidence
- Evidence did not help Trevon Martin we will see if it matters with George Floyd
Talking Point 2
Scripture Excerpt 2 - Subpoint 2- Title…. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.
Talking Point 1
- they walk away and don’t even say anything to Mary
- disciples go it in front of Mary see the evidence (say nothing to her and head back home – we out!!) They say nothing. What did the evidence mean to them.

Point 2 – Section title EXPECTATIONS (draw directly from scripture)

11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

Talking Point 1
- what was the expecation
- she had been coming there on every morning (slow down and explain this).
- Mary shows up expecting a dead savior
Talking Point 2
- Mary had been coming to the tomb since the day after the crucifixion
- Mary was happy with a dead savior (as long as I can find the body I’m okay)
- We are happy with a dead church dead ministries, dead music dead worship.
- They had an expectation that death had won. There was not expectation of a resurrection.
- Marks account even says that they had purchase spices to anoint the body. They was the expectation of death and not resurrection.
Scripture Excerpt 2 - Subpoint 2- Title…. 13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”
“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put

Point 3 – Section title EXPERIENCE - (draw directly from scripture)

14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
Explain What biblical writer is saying – draw from your exegesis work..deep explanation.
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about Will you look inside the tomb or will you look out from the tomb to see the possibilities.
Scripture Excerpt 1 - Subpoint 1- Title…. 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”
Talking Point 1
- Mary has not gone into the tomb she crys
- Mary is outside the tomb
- Explain her relation ship to Christ
- The is the same Mary that was at the cross when Jesus died.
- When most of the disciples had ran away. Mary was at the foot of Jesus
- this is the same mary. When Martha was in the kitchen cooking. This is the same mary that was at the feet of Christ, crying asking forgiveness, she was broken, she was humble.
-
Talking Point 2
- moving the stone not only freed Christ it also freed you an me
- Jesus shows the discples the evidence but He gives mary the experience.
- Many times in life solid evidence with low expectations can leave you stuck in the tomb. We still won’t evangelize.
- If you take a look from the inside we would see things differntly
- What is the function?
The hearers will be change by the message because_the hearing and the seeing. One must be positioned and postured first.
As a result, they will position themselves at the tomb in order to see Jesus. OR when they find themselves in tomb situations they will position and posture themselves to see Jesus.
People don’t realize that: Christ still shows up at the the tomb to let you know what you thought was dead is now alive.
- If we could only view the tomb from the fact that it was us that was dead in the tomb
- we don’t see Jesus until we hear is voice
- Because of her heart of worship
- Because of her seeking after Christ day by day
- She hears his voice and its them that understands the resurrection.
- Just like the person on storage wars. Don’t have to go on the inside
Scripture Excerpt 2 - Subpoint 2- Title….
- Jeus calls her name. When Jesus calls our name things begin to change. Jesus comes to us on a daily basis calling our names. So that we will we can have a resurrection from bad relationship.
- so that he can resusurrection us from dead ways of thinking
- Mary first brings news that a the that body of a dead saviors was taken. But when she has a
- Christ becomes clear in our lives once we hear his voice. But that is the result of sitting at his feet, sitting at the cross allow him to stand that the door way of the tombs of our life to call our name a resurrect what was dead!!
Talking Point 1
- What is your perspective in the tomb
- We get confused on resurrection day
- Yes we are happy that Christ got up.
- But does that mean that somehow
- What were our expectations?
- Isn’t he an all powerful God.
- I think the thing that we should shout about is that Christ took our place in the tomb.
- It should not have been him that got beaten, should not have been him that hung on the cross, should have not been him that went in the grave and died.
- he took our place in that tomb.
- when you take a look from the inside of the tomb you will understand the power (you understand) If you’ve ever been brought back to life!!

SupporSupporting Scripture

-There was something in that storage shed. You might not see the evidence immediately.
- But if you keep chasing after Jesus you will find him and you will have that experience.
- Satan has placed us in out daily tombs and has rolled a ston in front of the door.
- But Christ shows up
- Bidding (Satan is bidding, sorrow to keep you in that ---
- Christ comes and places oen bid. He gives his life
Something on the inside working on the outside. Theres been a change in me.
What songs can you use…old and new.
- It is not until the contents of the storage shed are removed that we see the value and the blessing of what the resurrection means.
