Introduction

Greetings…
As you all know we have been studying through the theme “Names Of Jesus” with the desire to draw closer to him by way of studying the different names of titles attributed to our Savior.
After all, if God, through direct inspiration, had these names preserved for eternity we should understand, not only there meaning, but their significance to each of us.
Today, we are going to explore the name given Christ Jesus in Revelation 1.8 wherein we find Jesus being named the Almighty Alpha & Omega.
With that in mind let’s look at our lesson for today.

Transcends Time

There’s No Time Constraints With God.

It not hard to see in God’s Word that time does not constrain God the Father, Son, nor Spirit.
As Peter said…
2 Peter 3:8 ESV
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
As God declared through the prophet Isaiah…
Isaiah 46:9–10 ESV
9 remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
Again, even our text makes clear…
Revelation 1:8 ESV
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Why is that relevant and important for those seven churches in Asia to know along with each and everyone of us?
It’s relevant because it demonstrates that Jesus is always with us, as seen throughout history.
Jesus is there at the creation of the universe and all that is in it.
Colossians 1:16 ESV
16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
Jesus was there to comfort Hagar after Sarai’s mistreatment of her.
Genesis 16:7 ESV
7 The angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur.
Jesus is there to encourage Moses to lead his people out of Egypt.
Exodus 3:2 ESV
2 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed.
Exodus 3:4–6 ESV
4 When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
Jesus was there to accept the burnt offering and grain offering of Manoah and his wife, Samson’s parents.
Judges 13:19–20 ESV
19 So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering, and offered it on the rock to the Lord, to the one who works wonders, and Manoah and his wife were watching. 20 And when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the Lord went up in the flame of the altar. Now Manoah and his wife were watching, and they fell on their faces to the ground.
Jesus, after the ascension, was there when Stephen was killed.
Acts 7:54–57 ESV
54 Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him. 55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” 57 But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.
Jesus was there to hear Paul’s prayer for healing concerning his “thorn in the flesh.”
2 Corinthians 12:8–9 ESV
8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Summary

Jesus being the “Almighty Alpha & Omega” is for us to find comfort and strength in.
We can find peace in having him as our God.
It’s good to know that Jesus is not confined to time but there is another aspect of that I want us then to consider.
Jesus’ eternality also means…

Jesus’ Qualities Transcend Time

His Love Is Eternal.

Jesus’ steadfast love for us will never be stopped.
1 Chronicles 16:34 ESV
34 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
Psalm 103:17 ESV
17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children,

His Faithfulness Is Eternal.

It is from generation to generation.
Psalm 100:5 ESV
5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 117:2 ESV
2 For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!

His Righteousness Is Eternal.

There is no doubt that Jesus is eternally righteous.
Psalm 111:3 ESV
3 Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.
However, it is also wonderfully true that Jesus brought to each of us “eternal righteousness” through his sacrifice and resurrection.
Daniel 9:24 ESV
24 “Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.
1 John 1:7 ESV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Summary

Jesus’ qualities of love, faithfulness, and righteousness thankfully transcend time because in so doing we are greatly blessed for eternity by them.

Conclusion

Because Jesus is Almighty Alpha & Omega, which means he transcends time and his divine qualities with him he is able to lovingly, faithfully, and righteously let us know that…
Hebrews 13:5–6 ESV
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
Invitation
Isaiah 59:1–2 ESV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Acts 17:30 ESV
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
Matthew 10:32 NKJV

2 Thessalonians 1:8 ESV
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Romans 6:3–5 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
1 John 1:7 ESV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
