Mother’s Day 2021
The Prayers of Jesus
Me:

My Biggest Fan

My Mother

i. You did not want to come between her and her family
Proverbs 21:19 NKJV
19 Better to dwell in the wilderness, Than with a contentious and angry woman.
Proverbs 25:24 NKJV
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, Than in a house shared with a contentious woman.

Unconditional love.

i. It didn't matter what I did or how bad I messed up my mother always loved me no matter what.
ii. Even when it was my fault, it wasn't my fault. It was somebody else’s fault. And it probably your fault.
iii. The one thing I could count on was mom always praying for me.
We:

A Praying mother

a. Mothers know how to pray for their children
i. I am aware that some mothers don’t always make the right choices
ii. But generally speaking, mothers love their children – even in their struggles

The Power of a praying mother

i. Some of you are praying even as we speak
James 5:16 NLT
16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
2. We my middle son had meningitis
3. When my daughter travelled the country
4. When my oldest was struggling with life issues
5. Their mother my wife had the ear of God

What if we prayed for things like a mother prays for her children?

i. What did Jesus say?
John 14:13–14 NLT
13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
God:

Jesus prayed

a. Often alone
Mark 1:35 NIV
35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Mark 6:45–46 NLT
45 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home. 46 After telling everyone good-bye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray.
Luke 6:12 NLT
12 One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.
He then choose the 12 apostles
Luke 11:1 NLT
1 Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

The only thing the disciples asked Jesus to teach them was…

i. Not to preach Not to teach
ii. But to pray
You:

You have an example to follow

Most of us stink at praying

i. We believe in the power of it.
ii. We just struggle to put into practice
b. Here’s a couple of reasons
You don’t see any results
1. Study or read the bible mission work listening to sermons
We rely on our own self-sufficiency
1. We don’t brother God with it because we can solve it ourselves

If Jesus prayed…

i. Shouldn’t we?
We:

I’m not God

Pray is expressed helplessness

I’m not God and I need your help
ii. I am nothing with you
iii. We have to shed our pride
b. A truth

Prayer causes things to happen that would not have happened if you hadn’t prayed.

James 4:10 NLT
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
iii. Pray like your mother prayed for you.
iv. Confess your prideful heart
