God’s care for mothers - O LORD, my heart is not proud,nor my eyes haughty;

Nor do I involve myself in great matters,

Or in things too difficult for me.

2 Surely I have composed and quieted my soul;

Like a weaned child rests against his mother,

My soul is like a weaned child within me.

3 O Israel, hope in the LORD

From this time forth and forever.

Mother’s day

Honoring mothers for all they are and do

Pregnancy to labor to feeding and cleaning to training

All the while loving them in a way that no one else is capable of

Story of moms sticking with problem children

Fighting for deformed or disabled

Encouraging disheartened and depressed

Cheering on the successes

Dads and grandparents just don’t have the same committment

They are beyond doubt God’s greatest gift to mankind

And they have been given wisdom and discernment to deal with their children

Don’t always get it right

But how often they are able to make right decisions

And because of all of these things, we love and honor them

Mothers and God’s care

Looking back at God’s Word, I wanted to see what the Bible had to say about God’s interactions with mothers

Just what do moms mean to Him

Examples - He speaks about moms by name about 335 times

First mom - Eve

Oops, she was a mess up!

Or was she?

Certainly made a bad decision

Lost the priviledges of the garden

But still called to the same call she had previously

To bear children - this remained the same

Just the pain in childbirth changed (along with the change in relationship with her husband

God’s love for His children was still as great as it was before she ate the fruit.

Hagar

God was with her

Both after conception - guiding her and meeting her in the wilderness, and sending her back to Abram

And after she’s sent away permanently.

She calls out to God, and He guides and directs her

And encourages her about her son

The God who watches over us

The childless mothers

Sarah, Hannah, Shunamite woman (and Elijah) Sampson’s mom (Manoah’s wife), and Elizabeth.

All called out to God and He heard them

Israel’s leaders and prophets

God’s hand on these mothers who trusted in Him

And the others

Tamar - Judah’s daughter-in-law

Naomi - God provided an adopted daughter who loved her

Widow of Zarephath - son sick and raised from death

Syrophonecian woman whose daughter was sick

Widow of Nain

God is the God who watches over these mothers

Truly ElRoi - the God who watches over us

God’s care for all of us

From there, we can procede to looking at God’s side of the relationship

Bible talks about God caring for us as a mother cares for her children

“He found him in a desert land,

And in the howling waste of a wilderness;

He encircled him, He cared for him,

He guarded him as the pupil of His eye.

11 “Like an eagle that stirs up its nest,

That hovers over its young,

He spread His wings and caught them,

He carried them on His pinions.

He cares for us, even more than we realize

We always read about Him as a good, good Father

But He cares about us with the care and love of a mother

That intense love, protection and devotion of a mother

And have no compassion on the son of her womb?

Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.

So we can trust in the God of our salvation

He was faithful to care for His children, for the mothers, and we can trust Him.
