2 Witnesses

I am going away
send the Advocate
John 16:5 LEB
But now I am going away to the one who sent me, and none of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’
John 16:6–7 LEB
But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
You and the Holy Spirit are the 2 witnesses
Acts 2 the first witness account 1-36
Paul witnessing in Philippi to a woman named Lydia
Acts 16:12–13 LEB
and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of that district of Macedonia, a Roman colony. And we were staying in this city for some days. And on the day of the Sabbath, we went outside the city gate beside the river, where we thought there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and spoke to the women assembled there.
we will finish this later

He Will Convict

John 16:8 LEB
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and concerning righteousness and concerning judgment:
King James - reprove
Complete Jewish Bible- “When he comes, he will show that the world is wrong about sin
this word elencho eleinco means to expose, reprove, convict
to cross examine
to bring to light the truth
to convict — to prove guilty, and to bring to the conscious a deep conviction
the Holy Spirit makes the person deeply disturbed by the conviction
This ministry of the Holy Spirit is to the unbelieving, the ones who are coming to Christ for Salvation
The world here are not every person who lives,
not every one is convicted
so what is the person being convicted of?

Sin

there is a lot of talk about repenting of their sins
to turn your back on the sins that you do
to be genuinely sorry for your sinful life
lets look again at this verse
John 16:8 LEB
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and concerning righteousness and concerning judgment:
John 16:9 LEB
concerning sin, because they do not believe in me,
the sin here is singular, one
The sin of unbelief
Acts 2:36–37 LEB
Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt, that God has made him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified!” Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “What should we do, men and brothers?”
The Holy Spirit convicted them,
pricked their heart with the knowledge of their sin nature
Peter did not tell them anything new, this was common knowledge
they knew that they crucified Jesus
without the convicting of The Holy Spirit they would not have been saved

When God converts sinners and transforms them into the state of grace, He frees them from their natural bondage to sin7 and by His grace alone enables them to will and to do freely what is spiritually good

Acts 16:14 LEB
And a certain woman named Lydia from the city of Thyatira, a merchant dealing in purple cloth who showed reverence for God, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was being said by Paul.
The Holy Spirit opened the heart of Lydia to hear
Lydia was a Godly woman but not saved
Lydia was doing her best to please God
Lydia was doing her best to have the God scales to tip in her favor
The Holy Spirit opened her heart to the Effectual call of Jesus

10:1 In God’s appointed and acceptable time, He is pleased to call effectually,1 by His Word and Spirit, those He has predestined to life. He calls them out of their natural state of sin and death to grace and salvation by Jesus Christ.2 He enlightens their minds spiritually and savingly to understand the things of God.3 He takes away their heart of stone and gives them a heart of flesh.4 He renews their wills and by His almighty power turns them to good and effectually draws them to Jesus Christ.5 Yet He does all this in such a way that they come completely freely, since they are made willing by His grace.6

A few days later on a Sunday evening Torrey noticed a man in the congregation whom he had not seen before. He was showily dressed. He had a large diamond blazing from his shirt front. Torrey rightly guessed that he was a gambler. As the preacher held forth, this man kept his eyes riveted on him. After the service Torrey went to the room where they always dealt with inquirers and there found this gambler. He was terribly agitated. “I don’t know what is the matter with me,” he groaned. “I never felt this way in my life. I was starting out this afternoon to go to Cottage Grove Avenue to meet some men and spend the afternoon gambling. But as I passed the park some of your young men were holding an open-air meeting, and I stopped to listen. I saw one man testifying whom I had known in a life of sin, and I waited to hear what he had to say. When he finished I went on down the street. I had not gone far when some strange power took hold of me and brought me back and I stayed through the meeting. Then this gentleman spoke to me and brought me over to your church. I heard you preach.” Here he stopped and sobbed, crying, “Oh, I don’t know what is the matter with me. I feel awful. I never felt this way before in my life.”

“I know what is the matter with you,” Torrey replied. “You are under conviction of sin, for the Holy Spirit is dealing with you.” Torrey then pointed him to Christ

the sin he was convicted of was the sin of unbelief
he needed Jesus as his savior
i’m sure the sin of gambling, he would be convicted of in time

Righteousness

The person has been found guilty of sin
the person is deeply impacted by their guilt
now they have Jesus to compare themselves to
John 16:10 LEB
and concerning righteousness, because I am going away to the Father and you will see me no more,
Jesus the perfect man has gone to heaven
the standard is not here anymore
but the Holy Spirit will instill into the person the righteous standard
the sin he is guilty of compared to the righteousness of Jesus

Judgement

once some one is found guilty . compared to the righteousness of the standard which is perfection judgement is given
John 16:11 LEB
and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.
satan the father has already been judged and condemned to an eternity in the lake of fire
because of this the person condemned will know their judgement
all sin has to be judged whether Jesus died for their sin or
the person individually faces the wrath of God
a person that the Holy Spirit does not convict thinks their sin is not so bad, that their righteousness is good enough, and only really bad people will be judged
when the Holy Spirit convicts all three are present in the sinners conscious
But the Holy Spirit does not leave us with this guilty conscious
He saves us from this condemnation
at his point a lot of things take place in us

Salvation

Justification our sins are pardoned/ forgiven declares us not guilty
Romans 4:5–8 LEB
But to the one who does not work, but who believes in the one who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited for righteousness, just as David also speaks about the blessing of the person to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: “Blessed are they whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and whose sins are covered over. Blessed is the person against whom the Lord will never count sin.”
Adoption
Galatians 4:4–5 LEB
But when the fullness of time came, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order that he might redeem those under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption.

12:1 God has granted that all those who are justified would receive the grace of adoption, in and for the sake of His only Son Jesus Christ.1 By this they are counted among the children of God and enjoy the freedom and privileges of that relationship.2 They inherit His name,3 receive the spirit of adoption,4 have access to the throne of grace with boldness, and are enabled to cry “Abba, Father!”5 They are given compassion,6 protected,7 provided for8 and chastened by Him as a father.9 Yet they are never cast off10 but are sealed for the day of redemption11 and inherit the promises as heirs of everlasting salvation.12

Sanctification
Romans 6:5–6 LEB
For if we have become identified with him in the likeness of his death, certainly also we will be identified with him in the likeness of his resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified together with him, in order that the body of sin may be done away with, that we may no longer be enslaved to sin.

13:1 Those who are united to Christ and effectually called and regenerated have a new heart and a new spirit created in them through the power of Christ’s death and resurrection. They are also further sanctified, really and personally,1 through the same power, by His Word and Spirit dwelling in them.2 The dominion of the whole body of sin is destroyed,3 and the various evil desires that arise from it are more and more weakened and put to death.4 At the same time, those called and regenerated are more and more enlivened and strengthened in all saving graces5 so that they practice true holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.6

Saving Faith
Ephesians 2:8 LEB
For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God;

14:1 The grace of faith enables the elect to believe so that their souls are saved; it is the work of the Spirit of Christ in their hearts.1 Faith is ordinarily produced by the ministry of the Word

Romans 10:14 LEB
How then will they call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in him about whom they have not heard? And how will they hear about him without one who preaches to them?
The Holy Spirit uses a witness, you, and the word of God to convict
to convince, to cross examine.
to show in the heart of the person the magnitude of his sin
then compares it to the righteousness of Jesus
showing the the bar that he needs to be
then making him realize the judgement that is due him
then God gives the person salvation
from start to finish salvation is all of God
but God uses us His children to spread the word.
