ENDURING FOOD
TEXT: JOHN 6:22-35
INTRODUCTION:
Background -Jesus feeds the 5,000
Walking on the water
I. SEEKING FOR JESUS (V.24-25)
EXP:
Some of these people were seeking for Jesus for the wrong reason.
Temporal needs - bread and fish
Thought of their stomachs
They were not even thinking how Jesus came across the water.
They didn't think about the miracles he had done: Giving sight to the blind, raising the dead, casting out demons.
.
Pretending to be interested - selfish reasons
Not really interested in the Spiritual needs Christ was there to fill.
Worldly followers
Interested in material fulfillment.
APP:
Some seek religious things for temporary needs alone,
Forgiveness of sins untill the next time when they ask for forgiveness of sins they repeated right after leaving services.
We should be concerned about our soul needs.
II. LABOR NOT FOR THE PERISHABLES (V.27)
EXP:
What did Jesus mean?
Everything we work for will sooner or later perish.
He didn't mean for us to stop our daily work.
He meant that we are not to make gaining of material things supreme in our lives.
APP:
Life is like a vapor...it is here and then it is gone.
We must take the time to think about and do something about our spiritual condition.
Seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all the other things He will add to our lives!!
We are commanded to seek for that which endureth forever...eternally. (v.27b)
Accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour we GAIN eternal life!
In doing God's will in this life we GAIN eternal rewards and crowns.
We GAIN a home in heaven in the presence of the Lord...a home with our Savior!
III. WHAT SHALL WE DO? (v.28)
EXP: They didn't listen to Jesus, they were still listening to their material dominated minds.
They wanted to know what to do to obtain bread from God.
They still didn't understand. Their was nothing THEY could do.
APP:
Salvation is not something we can accomplish, it is not something we can work toward, it isn't something we can do.
When we accept the work that Jesus did for us on the cross it is a divine work that takes place in our soul.
God convicts our heart.
God shows us our sin.
God shows us our need for His Son.
God's servants declare His "Good News" to us.
CONCLUSION:
EXP:
v.30
They still wanted a sign (maybe more food?)
signs of the past - manna
v.31-32 God gave the living bread not other men.
v. 34. they still want bread (material)
v. 35 Jesus is the Bread of Life.
v. 36 Jesus declares that some of the ones that have seen Him still don't believe.
APP:
The question is do you come accepting Him as the Bread of life, or are you looking for a quick fix for your life?
