Zaccheus saved
Luke 19:10 NASB95

$5 challenge
Gave it away Thursday.
What if we treated the Gospel everyday that way. That we pray that God would prompt us to share the Good news that He came to seek and save that which was lost.
Monday -reminded several times
Tuesday - prayed about it in the morning, then was busy. Not so busy that I forgot about the money, but probably wasn’t looking
Wednesday - Prayed, then had another busy day, but was more aware that the week was half over.
Thursday - It was heavy.
Why aren’t we treating the gospel this way?
Luke 19:11 NASB95
11 While they were listening to these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because He was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.
appear - come into view
Luke 19:12–27 NASB95
12 So He said, “A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then return. 13 “And he called ten of his slaves, and gave them ten minas and said to them, ‘Do business with this until I come back. 14 “But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ 15 “When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be called to him so that he might know what business they had done. 16 “The first appeared, saying, ‘Master, your mina has made ten minas more.’ 17 “And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave, because you have been faithful in a very little thing, you are to be in authority over ten cities.’ 18 “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, master, has made five minas.’ 19 “And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’ 20 “Another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept put away in a handkerchief; 21 for I was afraid of you, because you are an exacting man; you take up what you did not lay down and reap what you did not sow.’ 22 “He said to him, ‘By your own words I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am an exacting man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? 23 ‘Then why did you not put my money in the bank, and having come, I would have collected it with interest?’ 24 “Then he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ 25 “And they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas already. 26 “I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 27 “But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence.”
This parable should sound familiar: Ten Talents.
Different location: Matthew at the Mt. of Olives
Luke on the way to Jerusalem.
From the familiar to the unfamiliar.
Luke 19:12 NASB95
12 So He said, “A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then return.
They would have immediately connected with this parable because this happened in their own region in their lifetime.
The land was ruled by Rome, but Rome knew that the most successful way to rule over a foreign land was to appoint a local king, who would be obedient to Caesar.
Harod the Great was granted his kingship by the Roman Senate.
He was the one that had all the male babies in Bethlehem killed because of Jesus’ birth.
Well part of his will was that upon his death, the kingdom would be split three ways.
Over Judea would be Archelaus (Herod Archelaus)
Caesar Augustus was inclined to grant Harod the great’s request when Archelaus went to see him.
A Jewish delegate went to oppose him.
The point Jesus was making was that He too would have to leave and receive His Kingdom from his Father then return. 1000 year Kingdom on earth.

Those that reject the King

Luke 19:14 NASB95
14 “But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’
His citizens: Regardless of what you believe, you are His.
Romans 14:11 NASB95
11 For it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall give praise to God.”
NOT MY PRESIDENT
I am a US Citizen and Joe Biden is President of the US, so he is my president.
The same is true with Christ.
And He will return!
Luke 19:27 NASB95
27 “But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence.”
Revelation 20:13 NASB95
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.
Revelation 20:15 NASB95
15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

The faithful servants

Luke 19:15 NASB95
15 “When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be called to him so that he might know what business they had done.
Luke 19:16 NASB95
16 “The first appeared, saying, ‘Master, your mina has made ten minas more.’
Master : acknowledgement of authority.
Your mina: It was your and you provided the opportunity, and look what your mina given to your servant did.
Humble.
Luke 19:17 NASB95
17 “And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave, because you have been faithful in a very little thing, you are to be in authority over ten cities.’
We are told that we will reign with Christ.
In Rev 5, Rev 20, Daniel 7, 1 Corinthians 6 (Angels), 2 Timothy 2.
Because this servant was faithful with 3 months wages, he is now in charges of 10 Cities.
The second servant
Luke 19:18–19 NASB95
18 “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, master, has made five minas.’ 19 “And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’
We are all not equally gifted.
You can’t use someone else’s gifts, and you can receive someone else’s blessings.

The Unfaithful Servant

Luke 19:20 NASB95
20 “Another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept put away in a handkerchief;
Master: The same name given by the other two, be we see almost immediately this is just lip service.
Put away in a handkerchief. : Careless.
Look at the instructions: Do business with this until I come back.
This slave ignored his master’s instructions. He was given the same thing as the other servants, but decided to not use it for his Masters business. He put it in a handkerchief
And look at his excuse:
Luke 19:21 NASB95
21 for I was afraid of you, because you are an exacting man; you take up what you did not lay down and reap what you did not sow.’
Exacting man: Hard. KJV (Austere) Not a term of endearment.
you take up........Thief......Term used for those that make their fortune on the backs of others. Slander.
1% Richest people in the world.....If you make $34,000.
The Master’s response:
Luke 19:22–23 NASB95
22 “He said to him, ‘By your own words I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am an exacting man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? 23 ‘Then why did you not put my money in the bank, and having come, I would have collected it with interest?’
He rejected the excuse, because that is what it was. Just an excuse. The truth is that the slave, took the money, put it away and went on with his life.
Not different than people that walk an isle, say a prayer, get dunked in water and then go about their daily lives as if none of it meant anything.
Churches today are full of these people. Maybe that’s you.

LOOK what he says next.

Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten.
Master, he has ten minas already.
Luke 19:26 NASB95
26 “I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.
Not the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.
The faithful /unfaithful.
The other 7. It doesn’t matter. Everyone in this parable falls into one of these three categories.
Faithful
Fake
Foe
