Hebrews A Second Look

Pt. 26

Heb 10:12-25

19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

KJV

The Reality of Redemption

Redeemed from the Curse.

  • Gal 3:13

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

KJV

What is a curse?

Dedicated to destruction.

What is the curse of the Law?

The curse of the Law is three-fold.

  1. Spiritual Death. Gen 2: 17 ( Separation from God. )
  2. Sickness. Deut. 28: 15-22, 27-29, 58-61
  3. Poverty Deut. 28: 15-17, 38-40

Does the curse of the law still exist? Yes, but I have been redeemed from it. So.......*

Gal 3:14

14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

KJV

What is the blessing of Abraham?

The Blessed

What does it mean to be blessed?

Empowered.

NT:2127

1. eulogeo (eu)loge/w, NT:2127), lit., "to speak well of" (eu, "well," logos, "a word"), signifies, (a) "to praise, to celebrate with praises," of that which is addressed to God, acknowledging His goodness, with desire for His glory, Luke 1:64; 2:28; 24:51,53; James 3:9; (b) "to invoke blessings upon a person," e. g., Luke 6:28; Rom 12:14. The present participle passive, "blessed, praised," is especially used of Christ in Matt 21:9; 23:39, and the parallel passages; also in John 12:13; (c) "to consecrate a thing with solemn prayers, to ask God's blessing on a thing," e. g., Luke 9:16; 1 Cor 10:16; (d) "to cause to prosper, to make happy, to bestow blessings on," said of God, e. g., in Acts 3:26; Gal 3:9; Eph 1:3. Cf. the synonym aineo, "to praise." See PRAISE.

A Blessed person is one the word speaks well of.

Self Inventory*

1 Cor 11:28

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

KJV

Examine myself in areas of health, prosperity, & fellowship. Where do I stand? If I have been redeemed from the curse of the law, by the precious blood of Jesus, Why are areas of the curse still operating in my life?

Prov 26:2

2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

KJV

Prov 26:2

2 Like the sparrow in her wandering, like the swallow in her flying, so the causeless curse does not alight. [Num 23:8.]

AMP

Prov 26:2

2 Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,

an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim.

* If I am walking in the curse, there is a reason.

  • What normally happens when a Christian hears they have cancer? Fear, why?
  • What would happen if a judge said you have to have $25,000 in his hand by tomorrow, or you are going to jail? Why?
  • How many times have I been told, Pastor Allen I really need to hear from God, but I can't?

We have faith in defeat.

Gal 3:6-9

6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

KJV

Our Covenant is a covenant of faith. The areas that Abraham is commended for, involved a real fight of faith. In one case he had to stand for 25 years.

To walk in the blessing instead of the curse, I must remain in faith.

What does it mean to be in faith?

A Story From the Old Testament.

Right before entering the Promise land.......

Numbers 22 Three different characters

1)Balak : waster, devastator

Num 22:2

* This is a picture of our enemy. He will show the characteristics and strategies of the devil, throughout the story. John 10:10

Is this the picture we get of our enemy, when we have a sharp pain in our chest, or a diagnosis of a terminal disease?*

I need a correct picture of my enemy.*

If my enemy or problem is bigger or stronger then my God, then I will have faith ( fear) in the enemy, and not in the Blood of Jesus. So what if God wants to heal me, if Satan is stronger and wants me sick.

John 8:32

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

KJV

* What is the truth? The truth is the Word of God.

Draw a picture of our enemy using only the truth.* Don't get cocky. (explain )

#. My enemy is always the devil.

1 Peter 5:8

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

KJV

* If I spend my time fighting people, I have already lost. How many times have I wasted time trying to get God to change people?

#. The Power of the devil, is not equal to, or even close to the power of God.

Luke 10:18

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

KJV

#. I have been given authority over all of his power.

Luke 10:19

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

KJV

  1. If I resist him, he MUST flee.

James 4:7

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

KJV

#. He has already been defeated.

Eph 1:21-22

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

KJV

#. He has a plan for your destruction.

2 Cor 2:10-11

10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

KJV

    1. He is persistent.

Devil:

He is constantly looking for an opening into our lives.

1 Peter 5:8

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

KJV

To work His plan against the Children of Israel, Balak recruited Balaam.

Balaam

Balaam had a relationship with the Lord. 7 times in 3 chapters, God spoke to him, and worked through him. ( vs 8-9)

When Balaam missed God, in vs 22, Balaam's response was one of repentance.

Num 22:34

34 And Balaam said unto the angel of the Lord , I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.

KJV

Under the anointing, Balaam's heart's desire was......

Num 23:10

10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

KJV

Why Would Balak ever want Balaam for the job?

Baalem : not of the people, to swallow alive, destruction of people.

OT:1109

The older Gesenius lexicon analyzes the name as bal and °am "not-people" meaning "foreigner," i.e. (he who belongs) "not (to the) people." But this is impossible. To be preferred is the view of Simonis and Hengstenberg: bela± and ±¹m "destruction of people" which accords with his reputation as a charmer and conjurer. (Some have suggested that Nikolaos "conquerors of the people" in Rev 2:6,15 is a translation of this name.) However, Albright sees the name as Amorite Yabil'ammu, "the (divine) uncle brings" (AJSL 44:31ff; JBL 63: 232, n.142).

(from Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament. Copyright © 1980 by The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. All rights reserved. Used by permission.)

Baalem was a divider of the people. He used his tongue to do the damage.

Num 22:6

6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.

KJV

Balak's great strategy was what? I will get Balaam to speak against the Children of Israel.

“ In those days, they believed very strongly in the power of our words.” Don't We?????

Do we curse God's Children?

James 3:10-11

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

KJV

What are some of the ways that we separate people with our tongues?*

Tied right in with our walk of faith.

Heb 10:24-25

24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

KJV

Heb 10:24

24 And let us consider and give lattentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities,

AMP

* example?

Rom 12:18-19

18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 1

NIV

6 times in 3 chapters, Balaam passes a very difficult test. One time in chapter 25, Balaam fails big time, and brings destruction on Israel.

* Even though it looks like Balaam passes every test, There is a hook in his heart.

The End of Balaam*

Num 31:8

8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

KJV

* What happened? Balaam couldn't get his eye off of the money and power. ( Joshephus )

* Who got cursed?

3) Children of Israel

Num 22:1

22 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.

KJV

In the natural, where they in trouble?

  • All the Children of Israel did throughout this whole ordeal was rest. They didn't even know they were under attack? The temptation would have been to attack. Changing locations.....3 times

Camp: Numbers 2 explain. There responsibility was to rest in the cross.

  • We are to rest in our faith in the Blood of Jesus. Don't allow yourselves to be drawn out of faith.

* example. Tyvone, Dustin, Mary. Shouldn't Mary have been the one healed? What did I just do? I got you out of the truth, and into your own understanding.

  • John with cancer. What is my faith based on? His goodness?

Luke 13:16

16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

KJV

She was a woman with a covenant. When I pray for someone, I base it on the covenant, not on weather they deserve it in my opinion.

* Pastor Allen, I believe God blesses us financially, but I got myself into this mess. Shouldn't I get myself out?
