This Christmas Eve we are gathering together to celebrate the coming of Jesus to this world. We are singing, thinking, and remembering about Jesus and what He has done for this world.
Tonight, I want to ask question; who is Jesus?
Who is Jesus?
He is the Baby in the manger
He is the Boy raised by a carpenter
He is the Teacher who astonished the scholars
He is the Miracle worker who healed and walked on water
He is the One who was spat upon
He is the One who was beaten beyond recognition
He is the One who was Crucified for no just reason
He is the One who carried our sin on His back
He is the One who defeated Death and rose from the dead
He is the our Advocate who pleads for us
He is our only hope for salvation
He is our Saviour
He is our Friend that is closer than a brother
He is the Lord of Lord
He is the King of Kings
He is the Word that was with God at the beginning
He is the Great I AM
He is the LIGHT OF LIFE
Outside these doors is a world. A world that doesn’t know who Jesus really is.
Most will celebrate Christmas tomorrow. They will set cookies out for Santa, family will gather, presents will be opened, and food will be served. These are great things. Fun memories. Priceless family time for sure.
For those in the world that are in the dark, there is nothing more to Christmas than the Holiday Traditions. The sad reality is that if all there is to Christmas is tradition then Christmas will have no lasting impact. It will be just another day that comes and goes.
For those that are in the light, Christmas is everything. It’s because on this day God implemented His plan to restore us to Himself.
Luke 2:11 ESV
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
When we celebrate, give gifts, gather with our loved ones, it’s because we are celebrating the greatest gift of all. Jesus Christ who is the Lord. He is the one who has come to bring light to the darkness.
John 1:5 ESV
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
This is the true meaning of Christmas. That the True Light has come into the world.
This is that light that will illuminate the heart and soul of everyone who receives Him. We read what the psalmist says that our real life begins with God, that God alone can give life to the spirit of man.
Psalm 18:28 NKJV
28 For You will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
When we understand WHO Jesus is then we acknowledge that He is the only one who can bring us salvation, joy, love, peace…He brings us life like flame ignites a candle.
I want you to know something important...

God Loves you

John 3:16–17 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Romans 5:8 ESV
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
This great love is why Christ died for us. He had to offer His perfect life as a sacrifice for our imperfect life. He atoned for all sin once and for all.
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
What an amazing truth for us to understand. That since Christ gave His life in our place we have been set free from judgement! When we make Jesus the Lord of our hearts and life we can stand righteous before God because we stand in the righteousness of Jesus!
The light that has come to the earth to overcome the darkness now lives in us! Jesus who is the great I am has decided to place His majestic throne in our hearts!
This does not come without responsibility

God wants His light to Shine

(Light Candles)
We are holding these candles tonight for a reason. They are reminders.
They represent the light of Christ to the world and the light of Christ in our heart. This light should not be hidden. It should be shared.
Remember what Jesus has instructed His people:
Matthew 5:14–16 NLT
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
It would be a shame if we experience Christmas this year without sharing Christ with others. Jesus wants all to know Him. Everyone to understand WHO He is and WHAT He has done. He very clearly reminds us that not only is He the light of the world, but that WE are also the light of the world.
Our lives must be a reflection of Christs’ love. That’s how we bring His light to a dark world.
John 13:35 NLT
35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
You see, what Jesus is saying is that once we know WHO He is then not only will our lives be impacted, but we will in turn impact the lives of all we meet. Let the love of Christ create in you a desire to be a light this Christmas.
We should be intentional this Christmas. Choose to make Jesus the emphasis this year.
Tonight as we are here worshiping the Light of Life, in person or online, my prayer is that you have an encounter with Jesus.
Who is Jesus? He is the one who is waiting for you...
Salvation
You may need to come to Christ for the first time tonight. You can do that right now wherever you are.
Romans 10:9–10 ESV
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
We come to Christ when we make Him the Lord of your life and you believe that He is the only way we can come to the Father. He is the one who saves us from the depths of our sin. He is the one who brings light and life.
Re-dedication
You may have confessed Jesus before and believe that He is the Saviour of the world, but you are not living with Him as the Lord of your life. To make it simple, you are not surrendered to Him.
Well, if you choose to surrender to Him tonight then this is about to become the best Christmas ever.
Remember what the Word of God says:
1 John 1:9 ESV
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
When we confess our sins and turn from them then we are repenting. We are saying, Christ, you are more important than my sinful desires. I want you above all else.
