Introduction

Twenty resolutions from the book of James - given in the style of a Jonathan Edwards sermon - that we need for living godly lives in the new year.

Resolutions

  • To ask God for wisdom to speak and act with a single mind (James 1:5).
  • To demonstrate true humility by boasting only in Christ (James 1:9-10).
  • To set a watch over my mouth (James 1:13).
  • To be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger (James 1:19).
  • To deal with others in a godly and impartial way (James 2:1-4).
  • To realize that I am accountable for how I speak and act (James 2:12).
  • To match my actions to my words (James 2:16).
  • To never boast or stretch the truth to make myself look good (James 3:14).
  • To resist quarrelsome thoughts and words (James 4:1).
  • To never speak evil or believe evil spoken of another (James 4:11).
  • To never presume upon the future (James 4:13).
  • To always speak and act with regard to the will of God (James 4:15).
  • To never publicly express discontent with others (James 5:9).
  • To always speak and act with unquestionable integrity (James 5:12).
  • To make prayer my first response to difficulty or suffering (James 5:13).
  • To regularly sing praises to God (James 5:13).
  • To ask for the prayers of others when I am in need (James 5:14).
  • To freely confess my sins and seek forgiveness (James 5:15).
  • To make prayer a regular part of my interaction with others (James 5:15).
  • To lovingly and humbly work to restore a fallen brother (James 5:19-20).
