Daily Bread for Seagulls (Austin's Story)
Question: Why praying for daily bread mattered to Jesus' disciples?
Answer: They had no time to collect because they had a gospel to preach.
Revisiting the Lord’s Prayer
Matthew 6:9–13 (ESV)
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Focusing on Give us this day our daily bread.”
Implications on asking for daily bread:
God provides and possesses what we physically need for this day (Proverbs 30:8-9) i.e., food, shelter, clothing
Proverbs 30:8–9 ESV
Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.
God provides and possesses what we spiritually need for this day (John 6:22-59; Matthew 26:26-29) i.e., love, faith, hope.
Application: Believe his provision, possession and pray for it daily. When your faith is shaken, remember how God rained bread down from heaven.
Main Idea: Every day we petition for bread because we believe God possesses something to give us today.
Have you prayed for your daily bread yet?
