What is the greatest promise you have ever read in God’s Word?
How is has that promised encouraged you?
Our writing plan this month has been so good! Today’s passage was a good summary for me.
Revelation 21:22–27 NIV84
I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
What a promise that is!
Have you made sure that your name in written in the Lamb’s Book of Life? I am certain that my name is for sure written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Knowing so compels me to a different level of spiritual hunger. I read this week an article for pastors about being hungry for God. The author quoted 2 Corinthians 4:5:
2 Corinthians 4:5 ERV
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.
I realized that this was not just for pastors, but for every Christian!
So how can we take the Word of God and keep our spiritual appetite?
First we remind ourselves how much God loves us.
Ephesians 3:18–19 NLT
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
2. Secondly, we need to stop filling our mind with spiritual junk.
God created us to be filled with His word.
Proverbs 15:14 NLT
A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.
What are you feeding on?
3. We should make knowing God our number one goal.
Matthew 6:33 NIV84
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33 NCV
Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well.
Happiness comes as a result of knowing God.
4. I should get into God’s word everyday. One author wrote: “The Bible is food for your soul. Eating a meal once a week won’t keep you healthy. In the same way, you need to feed on God’s Word every day.”
1 Peter 2:2 NIV84
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
Another translation says, “that you will grow into a full experience of salvtion.”
5. I should spend time with people who love Jesus.
if you hang out with folks that care about politics, that is where you will focus. If you hang out with folks that care about sports, that is where you will focus. But if you hang out with folks that care about the things of the Lord, then voila!
Proverbs 2:20 The Message
So—join the company of good men and women, keep your feet on the tried-and-true paths.
All these principles are taught in the Written Word of God. Why?
BECAUSE GOD DESIRES FOR US TO EXPERIENCE LIFE TO ITS FULLEST.
So let’s go back to our original question: What is the greatest promise you have received from God’s Word?
How has that promise encouraged you?
How will you use that promise to encourage someone this week?
