This my night with my heart.

Yeah, that's going to happen. So before we sing Our next song, what a beautiful name. I feel like we've kind of thing. It's so many times. I wanted to add a little something. So I was reading about how this song was penned. And one of those things they pointed out that they felt was important to keep in mind, the meaning behind the word, beautiful powerful, wonderful. And we think that for it and it's so today, I wanted to give you a little background to keep in your mind as you worship. What a beautiful name it is the beauty of both the tenderness of his love and the sweetness of his present. Then the next quiet. What a wonderful name it is, the Wonder speaks to our gratitude for salvation at the length of his sacrifice. And then what a beautiful name. It is our powerful. This one seems obvious, but the power of firms, his Supremacy and sovereignty is an exhortation. To remember our access, the power of God. And every situation as we call upon and declare the name of Jesus. So, today is you worship. Keep this in mind and declare his name and bring him honor and glory. And we'll sing this song.

So Jesus.

Nothing fancy.

Something cool. Hang tight.

In the middle of the street.

In the middle of the street.

Dear God. Thank you so much for being a. That's a live even to this day in your live in us. Give us the power throughout this week, to call upon your name, to bring us the strength to go through anything this world has to throw at us. And God, I ask that today, you'll be with anyone who wasn't able to make it be, that natural reasons. Car is not starting whatever, Lord that you will touch their hearts today. And that you'll put this, this testimony on their heart. God, and thank you for being a God, that loves us so much to send her, only son, your powerful with your wonderful, you're beautiful. And we thank you in Jesus name, amen.

Quick question, is this this this is going right? I mean, I can kind of hear it, okay?

That's over here.

It's been awhile since I've done this.

Basically a fair amount of the time when I have done this, it's mostly to force myself to get over my fear if that's what you want to call it, Whatever anxiety that is and I keep telling myself, I don't care it. However, it turns out, it turns out, but I really do care about turns out. so,

I want to start with this verse came to me today, although it is one of those verses that

I go to, I wasn't really thinking about it until this morning. It's out of Isaiah 6. It's not there. Just so you know where is with John? I'm kind of an analog guy in a digital world. And to tell you the truth, I like it. There's a whole lot about the digital world, it's great. But there's just something that I find about putting my hands on something that I know why it's doing what it's doing a lot with that in the automotive industry as far as the the technology and stuff and that's my side of Technology. This is not my side of Technology even though there was a screw up there and these people online may see me walking back there. It's not like I really knew what I was going to go. Fix it just worked out that way, which which always looks great but But this is out of a, I just want to read a portion of this, cuz I think this is it, this is one of those verses that just sticks with me. Then one of the seraphim flew to me having in his hand, a live coal, which he had taken from the tongs, from the altar. He touched my mouth with it. And said, the hold this has touched your lips. Your iniquity is taken away and your sin Purge. So, I heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send? And who will go for us? Then I said, Here. Am I send me? Barrel head for a minute and just father, what we know, not teach us what we have, not give us what we are not make us in Jesus name.

In this. As you can tell, I'm not a technology Guy. This is all paper here and so At, as I do this, I have to find my spot which, you know, I admire the whole technology things. Cuz you don't have that. Yes.

What's up?

Would it help if I move the mic? Better Could better spot.

I don't know. Is this going to be better than people hear me? Maybe that better. Yeah this is like I said this is all new for me whenever I did this before, we actually had the wooden Pulpit up here so that tells you sometime. And so anyway, My. Text that I'm going is out of Mark. And I'm struggling right now little bit because there's two text is Mark 10 and about the Rich Young Ruler. But there's also the text and Mark 12, and I kind of wanted to touch on both of them and I really have kind of struggled with this. Most of my focus has been in the market.

10, about the Rich Young Ruler, but then the whole part about the Scribe coming to him. I think both of these two things situations, I see very strong as a something that happens within particularly the church and I'm going to say right now I'm not really speaking to unbelievers. In this text. There's that there's plenty of that. I mean if you are an unbeliever, this is Christ speaking and trying to, I believe So is your note taker right at the top of this put acts 17:11, anything Kevin puts up. There is an opinion, is to be to be compared to scripture to whether it's true or not. And that's actually refers to the bereans that they were more noble than the last one I can, cuz they look to the scripture through prove that which they had heard. I want to read this then one of the this is out of 12 cuz I'm just going to jump into it and go to it. Then one describes came having heard them reason together for saving that he had answered them. Well ask him which is the first commandment of all in Jesus answered to him. The first of all the Commandments is hear o Israel. The Lord our God is the Lord is one And you should love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind. And with all your strength, this is the first commandment. And the second is like, it is this. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. So the Scribe said to him, well said teacher, you have spoken the truth for there is one God and there is no other Becky. And to love him with all the heart. And with all the understanding of all the soul and with all the strength and to love one's neighbor as oneself. Is more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices now then Jesus saw that he had answered. Why is he he said to him you are not far from the kingdom of God but that after that, no one dared question him.

This. Is about understanding. This was part of something that because this subject has come up recently. A fair amount, I'm coming off a week that a couple weeks, this is not been very good. I stand here right now and

I just want, you know? However, I look, I'm looking better than I was this week. This this week has been a struggle for me, or the last two weeks have been a struggle out. And I honestly, I really don't know why. I told one of the guys I work with, I said day and time seems as though it is designed to be broken. Normally, we think a broken, this is being an accidental. And for some reason in my heart it's just like this is designed to be broken. we were discussing some of this in Sunday School, the last couple weeks and

in the Brokenness. It made me think about judgment and what we are to do as to judge and not to judge in, this isn't really necessarily about that specifically. But kind of in a way it is because it's not for me to judge a lot of things this. So if you know, this is a tape measure This is my tape measure. I paid way more money for this, then I should have bought a tape measure but for me, this is one of those mechanical things. It's kind of a shiny object. That it's like, oh, I like the red and silver, it says Snap-on on it. So, you know, you paid three times more for it, then you should have it by lingual. It does its English and Metric. And I bought this tape measure. Actually, I'm using. This is our responsibility as Christians. This tape measure measures me. My name's on it. Well, technically, I bought it. I own. It is not your tape. Measure. Is my tape measure.

I can sit here and try to apply this tape measure to you, but if I'm looking at the events of my life, on the backside of that tape measure is nothing for you to see It doesn't apply to you.

This applies to you. My opinion of this outside of this means nothing. And I can stretch this tape measure out as I look at it and then pretty good. Wow, look how high I can go.

God is a springing this

I can repent. I have to make the effort to repent. This does not come back to me on its own.

I'm using this as obviously an analogy, but if I push that and I truly repent, God says, you know what Kevin We're good.

I have this understanding. Now some people may disagree with that and that's fine and I have no problem with anybody coming up to me later on and saying, well this is why as long as it's based on this I'm not a believer in spices as being the main dish, the main dishes, the meat and potatoes. That's the word. We add a little spice is here and there can make things a little more palatable for us where we came from our culture or the way. We were raised in the Northeast will raise, the Mexico were raced in South America race Thailand. the spices make a lot of difference, but the truth is, when we come down to it, It's the Lord, that matters. And God says, send me. Or I say, send me when God asked, who do I send who will go for us? so in this text here, Talking about this describe. It's, it's in it's interesting to me because both of these are very connected to me and that's why I had a kind of a hard time because the other one in in nine has to do with the Ten Commandments and a Rich Young Ruler comes out of that. And so describe comes up and he asked a question. I assume that he's sincere about this question. Jesus treated as he was sincere. So who am I to say and Jesus? He doesn't say, well, why don't you tell me what they are? Jesus quotes it. Now we have to put ourselves in that situation. Jesus is a new Rabbi coming up there is he's, he's coming up in into a situation. Where Here Comes this guy who's create a big commotion, this Rabbi Jesus and he's having a real tough time with you describe some stuff. It's okay. And so now the question comes up and he has his question. It says, so he goes on to well said you spoken the truth. Because we're selling, who is he?

Will know. He really may not know who Jesus is. He's testing and saying, do you know these things? These are some basic thing is is giving every time there is a Jewish worship, sir, this is the thing that they said then and it is the thing they say today.

and so, and then They go through and he goes on to tell him until the quote some more of the law about the burnt offerings, he recognizes these burnt offerings not saying they're not Gordon, God gave me the burnt offerings. They said do but aside from loving God totally. Those aren't worth anything. Those aren't worth it worth anything. If you're going to say, well, I'm not going to really consider my neighbor in this. No, love God. Love your neighbor. Now these sacrifices mean something. But then he says something.

That I found compelling. It was for me. You are not far from the kingdom of heaven. How did he say that? Did he say that? Wow, you're really close. Or it's like you're not quite there.

You know, I think if you're a sports fan of which I'm not necessary, huge sports fan, how many games have been lost on the one-yard line? We're close and people go well. Who are you to judge whether or not? That's close enough. However, I will say this, there is a point that is not close enough.

and this may very well for this man, be who is focused on the law? Not recognizing who Jesus is. He's not recognizing Jesus as Savior. He's recognizing. Jesus, as a teacher. the Jesus is just someone to teach and to give a

A better way of doing things. Just try harder. just, Be a little bit better person than you are. And some days coming off of this, two weeks, I'm not a better person. I look back and it's just like I've been pushing the reset button on my tape a lot and not for any of you or anyone else out there. It's for me it's like Oh I got to repent for that, I got to repent for that, I got to repent for that.

And so that's kind of where I wanted to. Look at this particular side of it. As in was Jesus just a better teacher. Why do people look at it to? Jesus is just a better teacher.

You know, if you can kind of do the things that he said, basically what the Old Testament already said, just keep doing doing doing doing that, you would be someday good enough to make it. But everybody knew that you weren't good enough to make it, which now that takes me too. And this is why this is in reverse order. I want to go to it, so I hope I don't have too much, but I got to tell you, I whittled down a lot of stuff out of where my head goes on this stuff. So let's go to Mark, 10. and,

Let's start with. 17. Now he was going out on the road. One came running knelt before him and ask him, good teacher. What shall I? What shall I do that? I may inherit eternal life So Jesus said, damn, why do you call me good? No one is good. That is God. You know, the Commandments do not commit murder do not commit murder. Do not steal. Do not bear false. Witness do not defraud, honor your father and mother and he answered and said to him, teacher, all these things I've kept from my youth. Then Jesus looking at him, loved him and said one thing you like go your way. So whatever you have and give to the poor. And you will have treasure in heaven. Come take up the cross and follow me, but he was sad at this word and went away, sorrowful. We had great possessions

this actually goes into some more narrative that it took me, but I'm really trying to keep this at 30 minutes and so

I just really found these two. Very Intertwined one is The Ten Commandments. Love the Lord, your God. The Lord is one sees me and then love the Lord, your God with all your heart, soul in mind.

So we have the first person described looking at all. Here's a good teacher.

but, Salvation.

And then now we're at this. The Rich Young Ruler. Now, now we get It doesn't say all that. If we look at Matthew, he's young, we look in Mark the same narrative, he's rich and we looking Luke, we find out that he's ruler.

So right off the bat, he has some flattery for Jesus calling him good right off the bat. Why he does that? No, that wasn't according to Alfred plumber, that should mean nothing to you. Other than he's a scholar said that that was really not a characteristic of how you greeted someone you know no one's going to go up to Kevin and and say oh Kevin the good mechanic or you know you're not going to introduce yourself is Barbara the good piano player or you see what I mean? That's just not that that wasn't at that time and we really don't do it today.

so, Now he comes in. This is one of the only passages that I know of and what I was in my studying that someone comes to Jesus thrilled happy and leave sad. There's a lot to come sad and leave happy. But this is kind of the reversible.

And this is where I'm starting to look at my notes, a little bit more. So he came and fell on a good teacher so it's unnecessary flattery and Jesus. Right off the bat.

He's not denying that he's not God, he's not. He's asking this guy. Why you do that? Why did you do that? What he wants real quick on the next time. Your dresses, and he doesn't use good. So, Now, let's look at this guy for a second.

Well, let's look at the disciples to start with and it's because this look comes on later. And has anybody watch the chosen the show The Chosen. Okay. It's a series that's that, that you can get the app for. It's interesting. I don't necessarily agree with everything but it's about the life of Jesus. It's a series. If you're curious about that, I would recommend it. My sister is kind of getting disheartened with it, but that's beside the point. You can make your own decision on what you on, whether you like it or not. And I do have some issues with it. There's some artistic Liberties, but overall, but it's interesting, they give personality to the disciples. And it and it's like, you know, we get this supposed Resurrection idea of the disciples cuz we read their there. They're the gospels and it's like these guys got together. These guys didn't have it together and in so that really comes out in this show, these the interaction, these disciples. And so, I understand, they don't understand.

Who is what is here to accomplish his purpose. and so, Went with when we look at this, we would let's look at it as contest. So here comes this guy.

And he says, why you call me good? He doesn't deny it. But this guy is like as far as a guy. Is prosperous material. Yeah, I mean he's he's prosperous, he's principled. He's personable. In Jesus's later on Jesus says that he loves them. There's something about this guy that just Jesus love. Doesn't say that about everybody in this and know that it's about him. This a lot because of Peters in my understanding anyway, but this like, how did he know this? Was it? Something that was told to mark, this is something that he was in that group saw this guy spiritual.

He's a ruler. He's a man of leadership, honest. Probably the guy that says I'll be there at your house at 6 to help you with that. You'll be there at the house that if he promises something he's going to do it and I was just throwing their name. He's good-looking to I mean you know in our day and age looks counts for a lot to tell you, find out the substance of the And so, but essentially, this guy is a good guy. and so,

but you still have a question. He had all the bosses check. But he recognized that there was something not quite right. We look at I think we look around and I really think in our day and time we look around and and we recognize a lot of people recognize that they got the boxes checked in their mind but something isn't right.

and so,

Yeah, so what do you think in English in Jesus, in verse 21 says he loved them and any looked at them. And he says you like one thing.

Now, we will just went through the hole. Part of the law. Jesus missed one. I think it was intentional cuz he knew this man. So Thou shalt not covet.

Jesus knew what that was in this young man.

Because he had great wealth.

And Jesus is telling him. That's your Idol. So in doing so, in coveting, he broke the first commandment. I love the Lord is God.

And in that time and then later on as we look and disciples were going, what do you mean? What would, you know, like what we did?

Jesus is saying, listen.

Anything between you and God is an idol.

That happened to be this man.

Idol was his great wealth and jisoo. You need to smash this. So,

In verse 24 and the end, he leaves away, sad and verse 24. And the disciples were astonished at these words. But Jesus answered again and said to them children which kind of gives you wear Jesus is coming from in relation to his disciples. Children, how hard is it for those to trust in riches? If they enter the kingdom of God, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Now, I know I've heard this also that that this is a time where it's like, we'll see people with great wealth. Can't make it or it's really tough for people to great. Well, For people who obviously, if you have great wealth, you spent a lot of time amassing. Great, well, I mean, generally speaking, you're concerned about that. You're also given the directive by the Lord to be good stewards of what we have. And so we're giving a portion be good stewards, but does this take the place of God?

in a society that says, if your blast

God loves you.

You're doing well. God will bless you if you didn't want doing well. And he's saying no that's not what this is about at all. You know, I use the analogy and I used it for a number of things that one of the places that I have worked is the philosophy was pretty much if you're wrong. That means I'm right.

Which is like, will know. 2 + 2 is not 3 + 2. + 2 is not 5. You can be wrong on both sides of that.

And when I look at the world that were living in today, and I'm going to getting off my script here, just a little bit and I got to be careful here.

I think. We can.

Get on this idea. That what we do? Is who we are in the sight of God.

Our understanding of who Jesus is is crucial. Two. I believe we will be judged according to the light that was shown. And to understand the cross and this is one of the things I got from someone, the ultimate and sediment in all our lives. The Bible says is that we are not that we are at odds with God. we are alienated from God and we are unable to put ourselves right with God and so in the person of Jesus Christ and who died on the cross, Not as a display of his affection. But Jesus, the son has died in order to Bear the settled indignation of the father, against the rebellious hearts of men and women and has died in our place.

Since this has to do this particular that I'm choosing on has to do a lot with the law. I've heard it said we don't live under the law and that's that. That's, I would say that that's partially true to a large degree. We don't live under the civil law. We don't live under the ceremonial law. But Jesus up the moral law. He didn't talk to this man about we'll really. What does it mean to not murder? You didn't say what work, does it really mean to not commit adultery.

To honor your father and mother. He touched him. Where he was at in his Idol. My question, I have to ask myself this week when I was struggling. This, what is my idol? What am I holding on to? What am I trying to hold on to where if I put God in my life?

And I hit the reset button and I come back to my senses. and I say I'm one of his

with all my failures. My past failures. My continued failures. My lame attempt, set, whatever it is that I'm doing sometimes and in his name, he still asked. Who do I send? I have to say, send me. But in that, I think I need to understand as far as sending me, who am I serving?

Now, I'm going to say we're at the half hour.

I talked to Barb when she was putting together the sermon and I said, I, oh yeah, I don't know, I don't know, I just remember half hour. That's like you know what? That's probably good advice.

It's amazing how your mind kind of goes blank up here when you're talking to people. And for some people, I listen to Pastor, John it comes very easy cuz he can keep going and going and going and going and now

But I guess that's what I'm as Believers. I guess, where I'm kind of going is How do we view Christ?

Is he just my help? So I call out to him just when things are going wrong.

Is he in control of all that's going on around me? I really feel like things feel like they're designed to be broken right now. And maybe it's when everything is broken that we finally come and kneel before Christ. Or do we? Patch It Up. And wait for whatever normal is. I'm looking for The New Normal. I'm looking.

Spend eternity with Christ. That's my new normal. I believe this is a digital simulation. What has happened in the past is, in the past.

I'm looking through a new future. I hope you are. I'm sure you are.

I really

can't stress because I, I really I don't know why, I never got it, but I never really understood what the gospel was about. Sometimes, It's like it was right in front of me the whole time, the tool, the peace.

I spent years sitting right back there at the time for a fair amount of time and growing up in the way that I did stuff. And yeah I heard these things until I really felt like a spirit was like are you? So you going to get serious about this?

Then I thought, I thought I got serious.

Then I use the analogy about cooking with your grandma and in, you know, baking a cake and he's really doing the cooking and, you know, and it's like little spoon of sugar there. Whatever it happens to be and as I learned it's like, y'all know, there's so much more I haven't got you. Talking with Erica 25k further ahead than I ever was 25. I'm not pulling some of my stupidest dance of 25.

I don't know. I

I guess. Discipleship will cost you everything.

I guess the decision is Do we recognize Our Savior as her savior?

And what are we willing to give up for that?

so with that all clothes, I'm running a couple minutes fast. Half hour, mark. But I'm still feeling pretty good about that.

Is there? anything that we need to or anybody would like to

Announcements.
