August 13, 2008 Wed Sylvania, GA
I want to talk with you tonight for just a few minutes about the subject of “attitude.” I see signs in high school locker rooms proclaim “attitude is everything.” The story of the little steam engine that “could” was taught to us as we grew up---“I think I can, I think I can.”
1. 2 Kings 5
a. Attitude of the girl
b. …of the King
c. …of Naaman
d. …of his servants
e. …of Elisha (take no money)
f. …of Elisha’s servant, Gehazi
2. Malachi—people’s attitude the subject of God’s displeasure (Malachi 1:6f)
3. I don’t desire your sacrifices and offerings --Psalm 40:6
a. 1 Sam 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. [Samuel confronting King Saul for offering a sacrifice before he arrived.]
b. Psalm 51:16-17 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. [Part of David’s psalm of repentance—Brad’s class in our study of Psalms]
c. The radio preachers who plead for money, claiming your giving will “force” God to give back to you.
d. Junk email—forward this to 5 people and receive a bundle of money in return…
4. This generation: 2 Tim 3:1f
5. Treat Him with….
c. Interest---too bad so many people become interested in the lives of their parents and grand parents after they die.
