Psalm 95
Psalm 95:1–11 HCSB
1 Come, let us shout joyfully to the Lord,
shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation!
2 Let us enter His presence with thanksgiving;
let us shout triumphantly to Him in song.
3 For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods.
4 The depths of the earth are in His hand, and the mountain peaks are His.
5 The sea is His; He made it. His hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7 For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the sheep under His care.
Today, if you hear His voice: 8 Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah,
as on that day at Massah in the wilderness 9 where your fathers tested Me;
they tried Me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For 40 years I was disgusted with that generation;
I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray; they do not know My ways.”
11 So I swore in My anger, “They will not enter My rest.”

· ,CONTEXT this happens just over a year after the Israelites have been freed from Egypt, but they had a busy year, here are some of the things that preceded this event
· RED SEA,
· BITTER WATER PURE,
· MANNA AND QUAIL,
· WATER from a ROCK
· VICTORYthem against the AMALEKITES when Moses held up his hands over the battlefield
· GLORY of the Lord upon Mt Sinai and the face of moses glowing,
· ASSEMBLED all the pieces to the tabernacle
So here they are at the Inauguration of the Priestly Ministry of the tabernacle, The people were told to bring an offering because
· “TODAY THE LORD IS GOING TO APPEAR TO YOU”
After all the sacrifices had been given we take up at verse 24

Fire came from the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they SHOUTED and fell facedown on the ground.

· Context This takes place after the death of Moses and Joshua is called to lead the Israelites across the Jordan into the promised land.

24 This is so that all the people of the earth may know that the Lord’s hand is mighty, and so that you may always fear the Lord your God.”
· Joshua 5:1 Speaking of the surrounding Kingdoms
they lost heart and their courage failed because of the Israelites.
· So next God in his humanly wisdom say’s this in
Josh 5:2

2 At that time the Lord said to Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelite men again.”
· AGAIN - No Circumcision in Desert - Now the reason they needed to do this is because God did not allow any of the Men who had come out of Egypt to cross over into the Promised Land because of their lack of faith, so during the 40 years of wandering in the desert none of the young men were circumcised.
And verse 3 Joshua understanding the infinite wisdom of God

3 So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelite men at Gibeath-haaraloth.
· Gibeath-haaraloth, or hill of foreskins.
· So there they stayed until they recovered.
· Celebrated a Passover
and ate from the land because the manna finally ceased after 40 years
· Next we find Joshua as he’s waiting on the Lord go on a little reconnaissance mission to take a look at the city of Jericho

13 When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand.
Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?”
14 “Neither,” He replied.
“I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.”
Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked Him,
“What does my Lord want to say to His servant?”
15 The commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua,
“Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

1 Now Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites—no one leaving or entering.
2 The Lord said to Joshua,
“Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its fighting men over to you.
3 March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time.
Do this for six days.
4 Have seven priests carry seven ram’s-horn trumpets in front of the ark.
But on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the trumpets.
5 When there is a prolonged blast of the horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. Then the city wall will collapse, and the people will advance, each man straight ahead.”

The boy Samuel served the LORD in Eli’s presence. In those days the word of the LORD was rare and prophetic visions were not widespread.
2 One day Eli, whose eyesight was failing, was lying in his room. 3 Before the lamp of God had gone out, Samuel was lying down in the tabernacle of the LORD, where the ark of God was located.
4 Then the LORD called Samuel, and he answered, “Here I am.” 5 He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
“I didn’t call,” Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6 Once again the LORD called, “Samuel!”
Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
“I didn’t call, my son,” he replied. “Go back and lie down.”
7 Now Samuel had not yet experienced the LORD, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
8 Once again, for the third time, the LORD called Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the boy. 9 He told Samuel, “Go and lie down. If He calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Isaiah 30:8–21 HCSB
8 Go now, write it on a tablet in their presence and inscribe it on a scroll;
it will be for the future, forever and ever. 9
They are a rebellious people, deceptive children, children who do not want to obey the Lord’s instruction.
10 They say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy the truth to us.
Tell us flattering things. Prophesy illusions.
11 Get out of the way! Leave the pathway. Rid us of the Holy One of Israel.”
12 Therefore the Holy One of Israel says:
“Because you have rejected this message and have trusted in oppression and deceit,
and have depended on them, 13 this iniquity of yours will be like a spreading breach,
a bulge in a high wall whose collapse will come in an instant—suddenly!
14 Its collapse will be like the shattering of a potter’s jar, crushed to pieces, so that not even a fragment of pottery will be found among its shattered remains—
no fragment large enough to take fire from a hearth or scoop water from a cistern.”
15 For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said:
“You will be delivered by returning and resting;
your strength will lie in quiet confidence.
But you are not willing.”
16 You say, “No! We will escape on horses”— therefore you will escape!—
and, “We will ride on fast horses”— but those who pursue you will be faster.
17 One thousand will flee at the threat of one, at the threat of five you will flee,
until you alone remain like a solitary pole on a mountaintop or a banner on a hill.
18 Therefore the Lord is waiting to show you mercy,
and is rising up to show you compassion, for the Lord is a just God.
All who wait patiently for Him are happy.
19 For you people will live on Zion in Jerusalem and will never cry again.
He will show favor to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears, He will answer you.
20 The Lord will give you meager bread and water during oppression, but your Teacher will not hide Himself any longer.
Your eyes will see your Teacher, 21 and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
So today is the day, today is the day to quit finding your comfort and shield in this world. We all know it will fail us every time.
“You will be delivered by returning and resting;
your strength will lie in quiet confidence.
