10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 11 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 11 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
As “newborn” creations (2 Corinthians 5:17) there must be a dramatic change in our lives from unrighteousness to righteousness.
We are literally expected to “put to death” that old man of sin.
6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
This desire to “put away” sin doesn’t change as new creations in Christ but rather is strengthen as we “flee” unrighteousness.
The word “flee” here is in the present imperative and thus is a command to “keep on fleeing.”
We are to flee immorality.
18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
We are to flee youthful lusts or passions.
22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
We are to flee idolatry.
14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

Or, as the proverb writer put it in Proverbs 15:9…
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but he loves him who pursues righteousness.
Again, this word pursue is in the “present imperative” which is a command to “keep on pursuing.”
What we pursue identifies what’s most valuable in our lives.
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
19 Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die. 20 Those of crooked heart are an abomination to the Lord, but those of blameless ways are his delight.

Paul’s charge to all those that are pursuing Christ and righteousness is to “fight for your soul.”
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 6 being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Once again, this word “fight” is in the present imperative which means it is a command to “keep on fighting.”
Our fight is for our soul is every day, every hour, every minute, every second of our lives from the time we obey the gospel to the time we die.
10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
