Now the seventh angel sounded the trumpet. There came loud voices in Heaven, and they were saying,
“The Reign of the world
Now Our Lord’s reign, and his Christ’s
He will rule, always.”
And the twenty-four elders, the ones before God, who sit upon their thrones, fell on their faces and worshipped God. They said,
“We thank you Lord God,
The Almighty.
Who is and who was.
Your great power,
You took it and ruled.
The Nations were enraged,
But now your rage comes.
It is time to judge the dead,
To reward your slaves
To reward your prophets,
to reward your saints
and those who fear your name.
The great and the small.
To destroy the destroyers of the earth.”
Then the temple of God in Heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen in his temple. There came lightning, rumblings, thunder, earthquakes, and great hailstones.

Monty Python anti-climax
Seventh trumpet: expectations vs reality
God’s will never ends with destruction and damnation
God uses evil for good; the destruction of the temple becomes the launching pad for the Church
Grandeur of the Vision
Grandeur of the Vision
Wasn’t God always in charge?
God began small with the family of Abraham, but now becomes God of all families
God’s vision was never just for Israel, but for all creation
Judgement and Reward
Judgement and Reward
So what does it mean that God now rules? It means we have a king and God who brings true justice
God’s justice turns evil back on the evil doer. The destroyers are destroyed, those who raged now face rage.
Unwavering Faithfulness
Unwavering Faithfulness
The ark is a reminder of God’s faithfulness.
Even in his judgement, God is merciful. There is never a point where he will abandon those who don’t abandon him.
