Go Series Part 5:
Pray as You’re
Going
Spencer Rogers, Jr.
The sphere of prayer is both private and
public. Jesus taught His disciples how to
pray privately and he modeled how to
pray publicly, as he was going and doing
the Father’s will.
Big Idea:
We can use the Lord’s prayer as a model for
how to pray each day, as we are going, and
doing the will of our Lord.
1. Do not make prayer a
self-serving show. (5-6)
Matthew 6:5-15 NIV
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the
hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the
synagogues and on the street corners to be seen
by men. I tell you the truth, they have received
their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into
your room, close the door and pray to your
Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who
sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
2. Do not try to manipulate God
through your prayers. (7-8)
7 And when you pray, do not keep on
babbling like pagans, for they think they
will be heard because of their many
words. 8 Do not be like them, for your
Father knows what you need before you
ask him.
3. Honor God for who He is and
what His name stands for. (9)
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“ ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
4. Pray for heaven’s influence and
the kingdom to be manifested on
earth as it is in heaven. (10)
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
5. Pray for your needs and
the needs of others. (11)
11 Give us today our daily bread.
6. Pray for spiritual &
financial restoration. (12)
12 Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
6. Pray for spiritual &
financial restoration. (12) cont.
Psalm 103:10–13
10 He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the
earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those
who fear him;
6. Pray for spiritual &
financial restoration. (12) cont.
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions
from us.
13 As a father shows compassion to his
children, so the LORD shows compassion to
those who fear him.
7. Pray for God’s power and authority to
keep us from surrendering to temptation
and to protect us from the evil one.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
Some translations NKJV & ESV include, “For
yours is the kingdom and the power and the
glory, forever. Amen
8. Pray for spiritual and
relational restoration. (14-15)
14 For if you forgive men when they sin
against you, your heavenly Father will also
forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive men their sins,
your Father will not forgive your sins.
Oh…One Final Thought…
When you pray, God will reveal his heart and
truth to you.
This week while praying with, and for Mae Owen,
the Holy Spirit showed me, just as the Apostle
Paul said, the gospel of the kingdom is not
bound, so too, our prayers are not bound by time
and distance. We literally can send our prayers
locally, regionally, and around the world.
Oh…One Final Thought…
So, as you are Going, be sure you are praying for
what you see,
What you hear,
What you discern,
Oh…One Final Thought…
and through prayer,
take territory,
create breakthroughs
and depend on God
to make you victorious!
