BIBLE TEXT: John 9:1-12
John 9:1–12 NKJV
Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?” Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.” Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” Then they said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.”
Sermon Title: Basic Training
Joke: The professional Soccer Coach on the day of a new season, gathered his team in the locker room and gave the the locker room speech. He reviewed last year’s loss, then began to talk about the plans for a return trip to the great game and how they would accomplish it.
“We’re going back to basics,” he said. And with that he held up a soccer ball, and said slowly and deliberately, “Gentlemen, this is a Soccer Ball”
The coach knew what too many of us try and dismiss – the way to stay on the winning team is to stick with the basics.

Outline 1
Bible Text : John 9:1-2 “Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?””
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
We are all spiritually blind at birth....Until we pray and ask jesus into our life
(2) The disciples ASSUMED that because he was blind that there must have been sin in their family life.
This assumption drove Jobs friends to treat him with heavy judgement.
A common thing back then was if someone was born with dis advantage that their had to be some sin in their life or family!
Q: Has Assuming things ever gotten you into trouble?
Verse 2 says they ASKED HIM.

When we are confused do we ask Jesus in prayer

Cross Reference: Matt 7:7 ““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
A.C.T.S Model Prayer
Adoration , Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication
1st Point: Ask Jesus Questions In Prayer, and Be Ready To Listen
Don’t ASSUME
One Application: Don’t Assume anything instead ask God your questions as you communicate daily with Him. He will never lead you astray!
Q: How is your prayer life
Personal Story:
I remember when I was chasing after the riches of the world. I asking this question in 2008 when the real estate market crashed and we had everything taken from us which lead us to bankruptcy. I prayed and asked God what do you want me to do.
Let’s take a look at Jesus response
Outline 2
Bible Text : John 9:3-5 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.””
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
Jesus doesn’t give them the answer that they wanted
Jesus wants to use your pain and trials to bring others closer to Him
There is always something much bigger with a struggle that we just don’t see
Instead of worrying about the cause of our problems, we should instead find out how God could use our problem to demonstrate his power.
Ask God: Lord How can I use this adversity to Glorify you?
Q: #1 Are you willing to embrace suffering if it drives you closer to God?
Q: #2 Are you willing to embrace suffering if it drives others closer to God?
(4)There a month left before Jesus was going to the Cross. There was not much time
(5) We don’t know when our time is up on earth, so we have to be the light that others need.
The bible says: He will come like a thief in the night
So we must be that consistent Light in this Dark World
Cross Reference: Matthew 5:14 ““You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
How has your Light been shinning is it burnt out, flickering, dim or like a consistent bright flood light?
2nd Point: Know Your Calling
One Application: Be aware that you can only be affective where God is calling you to be.
Personal Story: I remember God answered the question that i asked of what do you want me to do now.
He said” surrender to me fully and share your brokeness as a youth with others. This wasn’t the answer I was looking for . But God shared that this isn’t about you it is about Others.
Outline 3
Bible Text : John 9:6-7 “When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.
And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.”
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
(6) The blind man couldn’t see but he could hear. I wonder what he was thinking when he heard jesus spit
How much spit does it take to make mud?
Johns account is the only time Jesus spits on the ground forming mud.
LOOK WHAT VERSE 7 SAYS
John 9:7 “And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.”
On the Sabbath there would be no work at all on that day
Jesus performed miracles on the Sabbath 7 other times.
He would prove their hypocrossy, The Pharisses would tend to their animals on that day
He breaks 3 rules that day
1.Healed him strike 1
2. Made mud that kneading movement is work
3. He made him walk on go….you cant walk more than 2000 cubits, some historians said it was past that….which is about 1.5 ft for every cubit 900meters
Q: Would you have went?
Q: what is Jesus telling you to GO and do?...Are you still waiting?
The blind man could of did it later or said No or could of worried about how much money he would miss if he left……
Cross Reference: James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
3rd Point: When Jesus Instructs Us to Go, We Must GO
One Application: Even though we don’t know the why…we must have faith and GO so we can experience Gods blessing.
Personal Story: After God told me what he wanted me to do with my life, then He gave me next day orders .
He told me GO walk to church and stop telling people what you are going to do. Just lead from the front and do
Outline 4
Bible Text : John 9:8-9 “Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?” Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.””
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
If we don’t stand up for truth then we will lower Gods standards to meet our convenience…
Instead we should be raising our standards to meet Gods perfection.
Tell story about kid dunking on 6ft rim
We see later in the chapter the parents denied Christ because scared of being kicked out of the synagage.
In what ways are you denying Chrst daily
4th Point: Stand Up For Truth
Cross Reference: Matthew 5:10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
One Application: Don’t be ashamed of the Gospel.
Stand up, be that voice for Truth!
Personal Story: As I Rededicated my life back to the Lord. I had to change my enviroment , and make new friends and let the old ones know I was in Christ Jesus.
As I started walking to church , and I got involved serving everywhere. Serving OTHERS was a huge part of my calling.
He was slowly restoring my marriage, because I was changing from the inside out. God showed me that He wanted to use my love for Fitness as the Bridge to share the Gospel.
So after 6 month I invited my wife to church and she didn’t know why everyone knew me.
Outline 5
Bible Text : John 9:10-12 “Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” Then they said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.””
One Teaching Idea: (1 Sentence or Less)
Remember you don’t need to be a theologian to tell others how Jesus saved you from the blindness of truth and now you see with your spiritual eyes….
I don’t know many Hyms but amazing Grace is my favorite
WAS BLIND BUT NOW I SEE
Write this down:
Don’t get caught up in what you don’t know!
Focus on the things you do know!
Q:How many of you have a testimony of how you were once blind and now you see?
Cross Reference: Psalm 105:1 “Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!”
5th Point Share Your Testimony
One Application: Create a 2 min, 5 min and 20 min testimony of your life before Christ, how you came to know Christ and what has He done in your life after being saved
Personal Story: The one thing that I was ashamed of growing up . Became my calling, and God opened up more and more opportunities to share my testimony, This led into starting years later Fit 2 Serve Ministries, with the mission of becoming Fit physically & Spiritually to Serve OTHERS.
Five Ways to be a Strong Ambassador For Jesus 1) Ask Questions (Pray And Listen For Response
2) Know Your Calling,
3) When Jesus Instructs Us to Go, We Must Go
4) Stand Up For Truth,
5) Share your testimony
Altar Call:
We see the blind man stands up for TRUTH in front of the Pharisees, and they kicked him out .
Then we see the blind man face to face with Jesus.
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”
36 He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”
37 And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.”
38 Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.
The world may reject you but Jesus will always accept you
Do you want to see Jesus and have Him give you your spiritual vision spiritual ?
