Summary: A message about how the Holy Spirit Empowers us. He gives us authority.
Good morning and happy fathersday to all the dads we honour and thank you for being a dad, and we encourage you to be the influence that your children need in this day and age.
On the way out today dads don’t forget to grab your gift in the foyer and a coffee from the coffee van.
Today we begin the theme: (Presence and Power - The Holy Spirit).
Over the past few months I have been spending some time looking at the results we get from the environment that we are in, or the people we keep/hang around.
Chance Bartimote - becoming like the people he is around
Because that is what we do
It is quite clear that we become like the people we hang around. If you put a good apple in the bowl with bad apples, it turns the good apple bad.
This is why it is important for us dads and not just dads but all of us to be purposed about the life we live and the enviroment that we keep. It has a great effect on those that we are around.
OPEN IN PRAYER
Our children do as we do not somuch as we say. So we need to be a living example to encourage our children to walk in the fullness of their lives.
How can we be a good example?
What do we need to do?
Promised
John 14:12–17 NLT
12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it! 15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
As we see the promise from this scripture we are garenteed that Holy Spirit will come and live in us and help us walk into all truth.
So how can we be a good example?
So what do we need to do?
Presence
Acts 1:4–9 NLT
4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 6 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” 7 He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.
Tangeble presence of God/Holy Spirit
He is our comfiter our helper
He guides us if we allow Him
He helps us to walk in Gods call for our lives
Helps walk in truth
Empowered
Acts 2:1–4 NLT
1 On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
1. “When the Holy Spirit has come upon you”
When we have Holy Spirit in our lives,
He empowers us
He also fills us.
He anoints and sets us apart.
Conclusion
This is what we need in our world today. The power of the Holy Spirit working. The empowering of the Christian to witness and be a witness to the world that is lost. What we need to people who will see their life as an instrument of the Holy Spirit to be a witness to the world.
You don’t have to do much you just have to be filled. You have to allow the Holy Spirit to come upon you.
This morning I feel the Holy Sprit is speaking. He is saying to some, “Come be filled”. He is saying to others “It is time for a refilling”. He is again saying, “He has come to empower”.
God is not asking us to be zombies. He is giving us the authority and power to go out an fulfill His purposes. He has called us. He has set us free.
