Finishing is better than starting

Finishing What You Start

Starting something new is very exciting! Everyone is ready to begin and give it their all. Consider the teams playing today. How many of them think they can win the Superbowl? Probably at least 20-25 of them. Today is the first step on that journey. But half of the teams will lose today. For them, they have to take a deep breath and get excited for next week. And the next and so on. As the season goes on, the excitement will start to taper off, both for the players and the fans. Then, it will be trudging through to the end.
In Ecclesiastes 7:8, Solomon tells us “The end of a matter is better than its beginning; Patience of spirit is better than haughtiness of spirit.” (NASB95). The Ending is actually better than the Beginning!!! Why? Because while starting something is difficult, the beginning is easier. We get to make plans and get all the things together, usually even get to go shopping! Starting or preparing to start is easy. Enduring to the end and finishing is hard. It takes more energy the further it goes than it does at the start because you have to make yourself continue.
Just like the football players starting the new season today, the ones who finish the best will be the best for this season and the Lombardi trophy will be theirs.
But today and with great enthusiasm, let’s enjoy watching them start! Start a new season! Start the new path to the end!
