Yesterday marks twenty years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. On that day America held hands in fear, sorrow, pain, but also in prayer. As we look at the state of our nation today, it is abundantly clear that we have long forgotten the prayers and promises that were made on that day. As a people, America has turned completely and is blazing a trail straight towards a godless society with no apparent restraints.
This is a condemnation upon its churches. As the children of the most high God, we should be the roadblock that is deterring America and proclaiming the truth. However, too many pastors, deacons, and lay persons, are content to pull up a chair and sit complicity while we turn from “One nation under God” to a nation whose only God is self.
The hope of America, the hope of our children, and the hope of our own hearts is found at the foot of the cross, and the path to the cross is the Word of God.
The downward trend in America began when we took the Bible out of the school house, and our house. Therefore, I submit to you that the answer is to put the Bible back into the lives and hearts of ourselves and out children.
To our youth I implore you to take your Bible to school and don’t just leave it in your book bag but pull it out. Read it. Let your friends know that you are not ashamed of Christ. Don’t be afraid of the of the consequences (don’t read it in during the middle of class) but don’t be afraid to let your light shine.
Charles Spurgeon said, “A Bible thats falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.”
R.A. Torrey said, “Every christian who does not study, really study, the Bible every day is a fool.”
J.C. Ryle said, “Knowledge of the bIble never comes by intuition. It can only be obtained by diligent, regular, daily, attentive reading.”
Charles Spurgeon said, “The Bible is no the light of the world, it is the light if the church. But the world does not read the bible, the world reads christians! You are the light of the world.” “Bible study is the metal that forges a Christian.”

The Breath of God

What do we mean by the Word of God. There are over one hundred translations of the Bible in the English language. Some incorporate different wording while others exclude different verses. Many of you have asked which translation that I use while preaching. Traditionally I have used the KJV, although I often use the ESV for study. I don’t want to get side tracked by a translation debate but i want to you know that any Bible that accurately relays top us the Words of God are a faithful translation. If I ask you to go and tell Sandra something and I give you specific instructions. Each of you will probably have a slight variation but if the message is the same you have accurately given her my words. The Bible, as it was given in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek were inspired by God and perfect in every way. God in His Devine wisdom has preserved through time over 5,000 manuscripts in the original languages with the oldest Greek text (a portion of the Gospel of John) dating just 20 years after the death of John. When the trove of manuscripts are compared, collectively they paint a perfect picture. When we hold in our hand the Bible we can have complete assurance that we have the Word of God.
Knowing that we hold the Words fo God, what does that mean? What is the purpose and pattern for personal application?
Paul list 4 areas in which the Bible has an impact in our lives.

II. Rebukes

This is usually the biggest problem people have with the Bible. The Bible shows us where we are wrong. It brings to our understanding where we have failed and fallen short of God’s standard.
The Bible reveals our hopeless condition.

III. Corrects

Not only does the Bible reveal our sins and failures, it also shows us the path to correct out ways.
Psalm 119:11 ESV
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:105 ESV
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
