Self destruction in Pride

It's nice to see everyone here today, this is my first time preaching, and this message has been on my heart for a few years now.

Pride Makes our Mirror Dirty

Today's message deals with Humility and living a life of Unity. Were going to be looking at Philippians 2:3-6
When I woke up this morning and looked in the mirror, I saw a very ugly face. What I mean about that is when we look at how we live our lives, it is a far walk away from how Jesus lived his life.
in our reflection, we see many ugly little bad habits like
Our own needs
Our own wants
Our self worth
Our value
Our feeling of importance
And as the list goes on, each one of us are going to have our own list, but one big one we all share is a form of
Vain Conceit, Pride and we all have some inflated ego.
So how have I been able to start seeing Jesus's reflection in my mirror?
I came to a point in my life that I needed to change my ways and Totally Surrender my life over to God.
I had to finally, from my heart, A true confession of all my sins and wrongs. I had to give up my Idols(you have a list of your idols and you should know what consumes your life).
I had to Change my lifestyle, you might have to change some habits, friends, or even a job. I left behind being a Police Officer, which I loved, but God revealed to me that it was time to leave the job.
After 50 years of my life, I finally got it. It hit me like a ton of bricks.
Once i truly surrendered my life over , it changed for the better, We stumble everyday of our lives, and will never be as good as Christ is,
But we can strive to live a life as Jesus did, so when we look in the mirror, and see our reflection it should hold a resemblance to Jesus. There are plenty of ways we should do that. We're going to look at how we can Humble ourselves and put others above ourselves. It can be at work, home, or with friends and family, or wherever you are at.
So how did Jesus complete this task?
Philippians 2:3 NASB95
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
Philippians 2:4 NASB95
do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
Philippians 2:5 NASB95
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
Philippians 2:6 NASB95
who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
(Input verses here)
Philippians 2:2 NASB95
make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.
Being like minded (Phil 2:2)
By having the same love (Phil 2:2)
By being in on spirit (Phil 2:2)
By having one purpose (Phil 2:2)
Philippians 2:3 NASB95
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
By doing nothing for selfish ambition or vanity (Phil 2:3)
By regarding one another as more important than themselves By being concerned about the interest of others (Phil 2:3)
Most importantly having the same mindset as Christ Jesus who, being in the very nature of God. (Phil 2:3)
Input verses here
Philippians 2:8 NASB95
Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Jesus took human form and lived a life of poverty, being ridiculed, not having any worldly possessions, and living a simple life. (Phil 2:8)

Does Your Life Reflect This Attitude?

Who here today can say they live that lifestyle ? (answer to yourself)
Philippians 2:7 NASB95
but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

Is Your Mirror Dirty?

So you need to take a look at your life and see what is holding you back from total SURRENDER….
How do you hand it over to God?
First, look at what you have been blessed with,
Then look at what is holding you back from total surrender ?
We all have faults, but if you can look in the mirror, let go of your ego, and believe me we all have them and also self image, it is a big weight taken off your shoulders once you give it over to God.
Once you let that go, you will start living a life like Christ.

God Cleans the Mirror

Forgiveness
Matthew 6:14–15 NASB95
“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. “But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
There are certain people in your life that you just don't like. Let me ask you this question
Was there a person that Jesus did not like?
He even while being crucified asked God to forgive his accusers.
Luke 23:34 NASB95
But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.
I don't know about you, but that's a hard pill to swallow.
I am not up here saying you have to like everyone, but you need to be civil with each other.
You have to forgive others to be right with God. If not then you're not going to be forgiving of your sins and you are not walking with God. (Luke 17:3-4)
Luke 17:3–4 NASB95
“Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. “And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ forgive him.”

You Are Incapable of Cleaning the Mirror

There are not enough good works to get us into heaven, no matter what denomination you are, or how good of a person you think you are, You have to accept Christ as your Personal Savior and believe in the Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) and the deity of Christ.
(He is the one and only son born of the virgin Mary.)
With this being said, if you hand it over to God and I mean
TRULY SURRENDER IT,GOD WILL REDEEM YOU.
So how do you think you can embrace this way of living, (there are going to be some different answers from the audience, But let them answer in person or think about themselves.

God Changes the Reflection

When we close in prayer today, If you feel it in your heart, that you have never accepted Christ as your personal Savior and would like to do so, Just confess your sins and accept Christ as your savior and repent (turning from your old ways) and turning to God's way,
Romans 10:13 NASB95
for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Closing

If you are not attending church anywhere, we would love to have you Join us in worship every week, but if you're attending a church somewhere else, please take back what you heard today and share it with your church family, friends, co-workers and most importantly share the love of Christ with the world.
I will be continuing future studies about self, idols and pride as well as how to surrender. This is just the beginning to get your mind thinking about how you should be living your life and which path you should follow.
As we close in prayer today, if you have a burden on your heart or if you're ready to accept Christ as your savior, I encourage you to come up front and kneel before the cross and pray. If you don't feel comfortable coming forward, you can pray in your seat.
