John 17:20-23
For all those who will believe in me.
That we will be one as God is one.

Trinity

We see God is three persons, not three gods and not three manifestations of one God. But one God, three in person.
We never seek to define the trinity, just to protect it.
The Father
Ephesians 1:4 ESV
4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
Chooses us.
The Son
Ephesians 1:7 ESV
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
The Son redeems us.
The Holy Spirit
Ephesians 1:13–14 ESV
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
Seals believers until we receive our inheritance.
Three distinct jobs that each of them have.
Co-equal in power and glory.
Yet they submit to one another.
Philippians 2:6–8 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Jesus humbles himself to the Father so that the will of the triune Godhead could be complete.
John 14:26 ESV
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
The Holy Spirit submits to the Father in coming.
He submits to Jesus by teaching the things Jesus taught.
There is unity in the trinity, not trying to one up each other.
We are to represent this
Our job is to exemplify the trinity while here on earth.
The unity in the church should be the same as the unity in the godhead.
Ephesians 4
v.1-worthy of your calling
not with fighting, not demanding your own way.
By grace you have been called, you should be gracious.
Your were given mercy, you should be merciful.
v.2- Bearing one another in love
For the love of other believers we are to consider others greater than ourselves.
v.3- Our unity is in the Spirit.
In order for unity or friendships to exist, you need to have some common ground.
Our common ground is the Spirit that lives in all of us and the love of God.
This is why it says in:
Ephesians 3:13-16
Our common ground being Christ, we are all brought near by His blood.
v.14- He has broken down the things that once separated us.
The Jews had many different practices that were to set them apart, make a wall of hostility so that they wouldn’t worship the pagan gods.
The distance between the Jews and gentiles was greater than anything we see today.
Jesus fulfilled all the law, broke down the traditions that were only shadows of Him and thus broke down the middle wall of hostility.
By doing this, v.15 he made one new man to bring peace.
Jesus bridged the gap that is larger than any other gap in history, why?
To make us all one through through the cross.
Now, what God desires is for us to be one, as He is one.
Our spirits melded together with nothing standing in between us to cause friction for the sake of the gospel.
We always try to find analogies to describe the trinity, the best analogy that should exist is the church.
For we are many different persons, but we should be one in spirit.
