EX: Story about Jimmy Collins and his book: Creative Followership: In the Shadow of Greatness
If we were to search through the inspired historical biographies, which we call the gospels, looking for our Lord’s favorite formula of invitation, we would recognize it in the phrases “Come after or Follow me!”
It is a phrase so simple a child could comply!
It is a phrase so sublime only a Sovereign could command it!
The call to follow throughout the gospels is consistently a call to service and subservience.
The call to come after in the gospels , except for in John 1:27, has the shadow of the cross looming over it.
A worry and a grief of mine is a laxity with which we view the call of God on our lives.
It is an acknowledging call
EX: Man staring at the boy in the mall
It is an abandoning call
It is a call to accompany
EX: Music with a voice
It is a call to activity

Conclusion

In his book, Jimmy Collins describes what it meant to be a creative follower. He says,
“The reason I can say that my career as a follower was successful and my job satisfying was that I chose a great leader. My leader had a strong, simple, and clear vision of what he wanted to accomplish, and I had a passion to help him make that vision a reality and to sustain it.”
Jimmy Collins choose to follow a man by the name of Truett Cathy, and they formed a business model which has created and sustained the largest chicken fast food restaurant in America, Chick-fil-A.
Brothers and Sisters are we not called to a much higher calling? Are we not called by a much better Leader? Are we not called unto a much more noble and honorable activity?
