Hope for the Broken

We are continuing our series titled Hope is Here.
We all Experience Brokenness
John 8:1-6a
Jesus met with them in the temple early in the morning - like we are meeting today
The religious leaders found a woman guilty of adultery (not sure if she was married or if he was married but they were not married to each other)
They drag her “in the very act” out from the bed (suggesting she was not wearing appropriate clothing for going out) - and bring her before Jesus.
The intent was to entrap Jesus using the sin of this woman
Interesting the man was not dragged in as well.
Her sin was on display for public shaming
We go through things like this
sometimes other’s judgement
sometimes our own consequence
BUT IT LEAVES US BROKEN.
Sometimes we are broken by our own actions
Sometimes we are broken by other’s actions
Church is a Place of Hope
John 8:6b-9
There are three parties in this story:
The Sinner
The Accuser
The Savior
We have all been the sinner Romans 3:23
It is easy to be the Accuser
None of the leaders were showcasing their own sin, just hers
[STORY] Difference between Righteous Judgement and Condemnation
Righteous Judgement/ Discernment states what is - with the hope for what could be
Condemnation makes a permanent declaration WITHOUT hope for redemption
1 Tim 1:15 Paul said this to help keep us humble
YOU DO NOT want to be the accuser.
We cannot be the Savior, but we can lead people to Him
There is Redemption in Jesus
John 8:10-11
Jesus came to bring us hope and redemption
To reconcile us to God, He must become our righteousness.
We come to Him and He - the ONLY One without sin, does not accuse us.
Jesus forgives us and cleanses us - and tells us to GO AND SIN NO MORE.
For the woman who was broken - and for us today, Hope for Eternity is Here
Hope for brokenness and aloneness and addiction and gossip and accusers is here
Let’s Pray
John 8:1–11 NKJV
1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. 7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
John 8:1–11 RVR60
1 Timothy 1:15 NKJV
15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
1 Timothy 1:15 RVR60
