A Mixed Bag

Looking at what anger means.
Anger:
A strong feeling of displeasure aroused by a wrong, whether real or perceived. Also: Bitterness; Contempt; Displeasure; Hate; Hatred; Resentment; Wrath
Looking at that definition you’ll understand why the mess of anger is a mixed bag.
In scripture we see the progression that we hear from that little green sage from a Galaxy Far Far away had to say.
“fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.”
But equally in scripture we see anger that leads to positive things.
Today we are going to look at the Mess of Anger and answer one very simple question..

What does it lead to?

Gavin McInnes
Founded Vice and then slowly began going down a road of anger, that anger led to the founding of The Proud Boys. A hate group and extreme organization. Here’s a quote from Gavin McInnes
"Violence doesn't feel good, justified violence feels great, and fighting solves everything. ... I want violence. I want punching in the face.”
It’s a safe bet that Gavin is working through a lot of anger. And his Anger all of that anger, and the fearmongeirng, and the angst brings him to the creation of a hate group populated by and large with angry white suprmecists, and misongynists. The consequeces of this speech and his acttions have led to him being deplatfomred from every major social media outlet.
This is an example of

Anger Done Wrong

Moses
Numbers 20:6–12 CSB
Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the doorway of the tent of meeting. They fell facedown, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. The Lord spoke to Moses, “Take the staff and assemble the community. You and your brother Aaron are to speak to the rock while they watch, and it will yield its water. You will bring out water for them from the rock and provide drink for the community and their livestock.” So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence just as he had commanded him. Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly in front of the rock, and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels! Must we bring water out of this rock for you?” Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, so that abundant water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me to demonstrate my holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them.”
The people are complaining, again.
Moses and Aaron’s Anger and frustration are justified.\
Many times we thikn that because we have a reason to be angry then our actions and what we do with that anger don’t really need to be chanled through our relationship with Jesus, instead we take on the task of being judge, jury and exocutioner.
Moses and Aaron lost out because they let their anger lead them into disobedience.
Erin Brockovitch
A DIvorced Mother of Three living, who moved to California won a beauty pagent, got a job as a clerk noticed that an entire town was being poisoned by Pacific Gas and Electric. SHe let that anger move her to help the people of Hinkley
Erin’s exhaustive investigation uncovered that Pacific Gas & Electric had been poisoning the small town of Hinkley’s Water for over 30 years. It was because of Erin’s unwavering tenacity that PG & E had been exposed for leaking toxic Chromium 6 into the ground water. This poison affected the health of the population of Hinkley. In 1996, as a result of the largest direct action lawsuit of its kind, spear-headed by Erin and Ed Masry, the utility giant was forced to pay out the largest toxic tort injury settlement in US history: $333 million in damages to more than 600 Hinkley residents.

Anger Done Right

Paul
Acts 13:4–12 CSB
So being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. Arriving in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their assistant. When they had traveled the whole island as far as Paphos, they came across a sorcerer, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus. He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer (that is the meaning of his name) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul away from the faith. But Saul—also called Paul—filled with the Holy Spirit, stared straight at Elymas and said, “You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery, you son of the devil and enemy of all that is right. Won’t you ever stop perverting the straight paths of the Lord? Now, look, the Lord’s hand is against you. You are going to be blind, and will not see the sun for a time.” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. Then, when he saw what happened, the proconsul believed, because he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
Pauls Anger went a different way. He did not go down the dark path he followed Gods Lead.
