He Saved the Best for Last

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.

HE SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST

WE are starting a new series on Miracles and I thought it necessary to go to the book of John. John, as I’ve been teaching all year is different from the synoptic gospels. John is seemingly the last of the writers and one of the most profound writers there are.

The bible makes it clear on the roles of the disciples. Peter was somewhat of the adjutant, while judas was the accountant,

but John was in the close circle of Jesus Christ. There were miracles that John saw, that the other disciples did not see. There was a crusifiction that John and only John saw.

Young Mark who is seemingly the first writer, has an action packed book, that shows Jesus on the move. Mark starts his book with through prophets of the old.

Matthew would start his book with the genealogy of Christ. Matthew was a book a bit longer.

Luke though, takes the approach of giving the purpose of his writing then a few verses talks how the angel Gabriel announces Christ’s birth.

John though, takes a rather different approach. He begins John one with writing “in the beginning was the word” Which, through John’s eyes, if you really knew him, you would know, it did not start with prophecy, it did not start with a birth in a manger, and it did not start with lineage, but before the earth was here, Jesus was here.

Before there was time, Jesus was around. He then goes on to say the word was made FLESH and dwelt among us.

John pin points 7 miracles that Jesus did while walking the face of the Earth so that people might believe in Jesus and be saved.

We come now, to the first miracle.

The wedding of Cana at Galilee. Where Jesus turns water to wine.

You have Jesus. at a wedding with Mary, and they run out of wine. It’s a shame to me that Jesus, the savior of the world is at a wedding, and you have a problem, and all you get from him is good wine.

You have Jesus, who’s able to heal, who’s able to deliver, who’s able to set free, and all you get out of the deal is a temporary tingling.

Now as a church, we want to see God do some great things, but a tingling sensation is just not enough. I love when church is up and God does something special, but he could do so much more.

THEIR FOCUS IS ON WHAT THEY DO NOT HAVE,

BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE FOCUSED ON WHO THEY HAVE THERE.

AND I KNOW WE MAY NOT HAVE THE MOST MONEY, THE MOST POPULARITY, BUT JESUS IS HERE.

THE BIBLE SAYS: THAT WORD GOES around that they have run out of wine,

and Mary instantly looks to Jesus.

Jesus says “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come”

and the bible says that Mary says to the servants “Do what ever he tells you.”

Now we have to deal with this conversation in the text.

How did Mary know to go straight to Jesus?

a. Mary understood Jesus’s ability to solve a problem. She knew that over anything, he was a problem solver.

2. Why did Mary disreguard Jesus saying no to her?

a. because Mary understood that Jesus would obey the Law that says Honor thy mother, and because,

which means he has to figure something out as a result of his Honor.

Because your honor, not only breeds access, but your honor can get you a miracle.

Let me go ahead and tell you early

“THIS MIRACLE WOULD BE NO MIRACLE WITHOUT OBEDIENCE.”

IF JESUS IS NEVER OBEDIENT TO HIS MOTHER, WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS EARLY, WOULD BE NO MORE.

IF THE SERVANTS ARE NOT OBEDIENT TO JESUS, WINE IS NEVER MADE,

CAN I TELL YOU YOUR NEXT MIRACLE IS CONNECTED TO YOUR OBEDIENCE?

The bible says there were 6 stone water jars and Jesus tells them to fill the Jars with water up to the brim.

The brim, is the word ahno in the greek which means above.

Which means they went ABOVE AND BEYOND, BECAUSE WHEN YOU WANT SOMETHING FROM GOD, THE BARE MINIMUM WILL NOT CUT IT.

THE BIBLE SAYS THAT JESUS THEN TELLS THEM TO DRAW SOME OUT AND TAKE IT TO THE FEAST , AND WHEN THE MASTER OF THE FEAST TASTED THE WATER THAT BECAME WINE HE TASTED THE BEST WINE HE EVER HAD.

NOW THESE waterpots were something they used for purification, they would usually wash their hands with it.

it would almost put you in the mind of dish water. The most slimy dirty pots that everyone has used up, God used to do a miracle,

and I do not know who I’m talking to in hear but I w ant to encourage you that God can take a dirty thing, and use it for his glory.

close: the master of the feast says we usually drink the good wine first, but you have saved the best for last,

this is to someone who does not have a seat at the table God saved the best for last.
